Just thought I'd share some pics here. I developped a leather fetish as soon as I bought my E39 and was lucky enough to find some super rare leather bits on German Ebay. Recently got them back from the leather restoring guy and he took some decent before and after pics and put them on facebook. Jesus I forgot/never realised how manky they were before, but he did an awesome job! Now I have to try to do as good a job on my E38 contours myself!

Facebook album is here...

And I nicked a few highlights. Before... ewww

Mmmmmm leather...

My wife would projectile vomit at the sight of that.

Took her to see a 525i SE Touring yesterday with Sand Beige seats (no extended leather), beige lower dash, door cards, seat belts and headlining and I don't think I've ever seen her so sure about not wanting something as that! Poor bloke had valeted it, spruced up the engine bay for her to say "DO NOT WANT".

I liked it. :(

John @ Bespoke Leathering near me charges £260 for padded leather retrims using calf leather/alcantara. Does great work from what I've seen and can do the extended leathering if needed.

I'm the same tbh, can't stand the sand beige but then I seem to be in the minority as I can't stand wood in cars either. Do like the silver though.

Regardless it looks a great job

Beautiful. Does it have that wonderful fresh leathery smell?... :D

Can't remember to be honest! I briefly unpacked it to stroke it when I was back in UK but packed it up again. It's now in a lorry on it's way to Norway with all my other stuff. If it smells of anything it will be all the cleaning and conditioning stuff and the new dye - no new leather used - it's all the old stuff cleaned up and all the scratches/dents sorted then redyed.

How much did he charge for that?

It was 200 for the doorcards resto and 80 for the dash parts and the little footwell parts. The parts I got from Ebay were missing the glove box lid and it was 100 to get that trimmed in matching OEM caramel leather. So if, like I was, you are lucky enough to find the rocking-horse-poo-rare leather bits then the restoration is pretty damn reasonable, imho. But if you have to cover standard non-leather parts with leather then it's gonna add up to be pretty pricey!

Always gonna be some weirdos who dont like light colour leather interiors :). Bizarre! Mine is sand beige at the moment and i like it (although mine has black dash/door tops - the usual brown that goes with a beige interior is a bit ewwww).

That's who did it. He's done a few E39s including alcantara headlining (which I want done at some point too) and boot. If you click that facebook link above then go to his other albums you can find another E39 he is working on where he's covered non leather dash and centre console in leather. Looks great. Also done door cards but no pics of that yet.

Awesome stuff, he's been really helpful the few times I've needed to get in touch with him. His unit's not far from where I work, does he still have the green E36 there? The extended leather in that looks the nuts :)

I've seen some of his work on the E36Coupe forums and the quality of his work is stunning! I do need to pop down and grab some of his leather cleaner + conditioner though, the testimonials for that stuff speaks for itself
