I see Corsair have released a new version of their software which supports their PWM fans and most other PWM fans.

Just wondering if anyone has recently bought a H80i (from OCUK) and got the new PWM fans from Corsair, and if the link software now supports their SP 3pin fans correctly too ?

Also with the H80 would it be best to run PWM fans from your 4pin mobo fan headers and let the bios/motherboard software control the speeds, or else plug directly into the H80i pump and let the Corsair software control the speeds.

Am trying to decide whether I will get an NHD14 or H80i for my new build (Silverstone TJ08-E and Asus Z77 Gene). I definitely want PWM control which all the asus mobo fan headers support.

Not 100% sure mate but I bet the Corsair link software can tell you what revision of the firmware is installed.

Here is the latest link software

Here is the update procedure

"On the main screen under the “Tools” drop down menu select the “Device Management” option. This should bring up a separate dialog box that shows you all connected Corsair Link devices and the current firmware installed on them."

Can you tell me if your Corsair fans are 3pin or 4pin ?

Thanks. If I go the H80i route I will likely get a pair of Noctua PWM fans so.

Actually I think Corsair are shipping their PWM fans on the very latest stock out of the factory but will replace the 3pin ones with the PWM fans if you have fan issues.

I just junked an H80 after only 13 months after it fell over. My impressions aren't that good. Replaced with V6 OC XSPC kit.

I took it apart to see if the pump worked, so i kinda voided any warranty. The pump worked. It was seated properly. yet my cpu got to 85 and reset. So i put the v6 in. Now its idling at 27 and gaming at 40. No overclock though. I reset the cmos to standard so i lost it. i7 2600k @ 3.5GHz on a z68. I will re-instate the OC after a week or so.

I kept the 2 fans though. :) theyre now my front supply fans.

Got a h80i recently, the link2 software is a pile of garbage IMO messed about with it for a day which neither of my sp fans responded to i.e quiet mode.. Pay 25 quid and got myself a fan controller for the rad and case fans. All happy just load core temp into the start up. Idles at 29-31

I see Redbeard on the Corsair forums says the link software doesn't support the retail SP120 fans Corsair sell but they are reasonably quiet anyway (the quiet series).

Anyway I have decided I may still go with a H80i and a pair of SP120 quiet editions and let the cpu fan headers on my Asus V Gene regulate their voltage. No need therefore for the usb connector to the motherboard or the buggy link software. Would this approach eliminate all the noise/grinding/whining issue people are having ?

Regarding the H80i pump, my understanding is it is powered by a sata connector and it will always run at 100% and the 3pin fan connector from the pump is only for the tach readout and can be plugged into any motherboard header. It is usually only plugged into the cpu fan header so your system won't complain about no cpu fan at post. Is this correct ?

Last question - any installation issues on the Asus Maximus V Gene, specifically anything on the back of the board getting in the way of the H80i backplate, and any issue with the mounting system requiring additional washers to tighten it up ?
