Windows 8, Hotmail & other problems

Hi All,

I am trying to help a lady that runs a charity who's pc recently died. She purchased a new i5 pc which has windows 8 installed and she is in a bit of a state at the mo.

Does anyone know how to recover or search for the 12 years of hotmail or winmail emails she has on her old drive and move them to Outlook? Also, can she reset the desktop so that the screen and menus appear the same way as they did with win7?

I have never used 8 so have no idea, so any help would be very much appreciated. :confused:

There is a third party application that gets the start button back like windows 7, and functions the exact same, which should help. The UI will always be there when you load up the PC however, but once on the desktop, everything should be fine.

Are all the emails stored/archived on the old hard-drive?

Thanks folks. She "thinks" she was using windows mail or hotmail.

She doesn't need this.

The question is email history.

outlook.com then pin it to the start menu. If she used Hotmail they should all be there.

Problem is they are on her old HDD

Two questions, one was
Also, can she reset the desktop so that the screen and menus appear the same way as they did with win7?
the other was email

If she was using hotmail then as said the emails should still be there or via outlook.com
what this implies is she was using windows mail to download email from hotmail and store it only locally. I didnt think this was possible and if it is its a stupid idea due to exactly what happened.
If so and if you can access the old hard disk then try following this:

Thanks Bry, I will forward the link to her as her nephew is going round tonight to try and help. She hasn't managed to reset the screen so far. She isn’t sure what email she was using, it’s a typical scenario, she has been going along quite happily not realising she was at risk and now the proverbial has hit the fan. It’s further complicated by the fact that she is 110 miles away from me.
