Hi,

Any ideas what could be the reason behind a ticking noise, two ticks every second roughly, from my PC which is sitting about a metre away from me in an otherwise silent bedroom? Power supply maybe?

Thanks

Something obstructing a fan? Where a cable swings back or hits it again every few seconds ? Or a bad fan bearing ?

probably a fan maybe one of the bearings is failing.

try stopping them with your finger by pressing on the circular part in the middle obviously (although I doubt most pc fans have a high enough rpm to hurt you these days anyway)

delta fans used to sting like hell or cut the skin

Well you should look to get it replaced if it's still under warranty

I should but it's such a hassle. The PSU needs replacing and the motherboard needs replacing. The mobo warranty is probably void as it is damaged. No idea if I'd need to replace the GPU too as that plays up too but may just be the mobo's fault.

Last time I had this problem it was the PSU. It was constant and fast ticking sound that worsen as power load increases.

Yeah, this. It seems to be affecting Corsair PSU's recently as well.

But as mentioned previously, it could be a fan. The bearings went in my rear fan a while ago, it made a ticking sound. The bearings in my intake fan are going too... That one buzzes...

i would back up the hard drive soon. as in very soon.

Oh, yeah that's a thing. My laptop started making ticking noises so I thought I had better do a backup, the hard drive failed on me 3/4 of the way through the backup. I guess all that copying killed it.
