EA CEO TO RESIGN!

is EA's rep really that bad or is it just a vocal minority? the vocal minority being hardcore pc gamers that populate these kind of forums!? im not saying there rep isn't deserved, just saying does everyone including the mainstream console gamers think that badly of them?

The general public don't give a rat's arse, and continue to buy. The games work on consoles etc, job done. The net savvy chaps/chapesses hate EA. This has been going on for MANNNNNNY years.

On that page I saw: "I am proud"-I hate him already-" of what we have accomplished together, and after six years I feel it is the right time for me pass the baton and let new leadership take the Company into its next phase of innovation and growth."

He will probably be replaced with someone 'specialising' in mobile games or some crap  the only unfortunate thing I get from this, is if he is 100% accountable for the 'shortcomings' is that he didn't run the company into the ground first.

It currently looks like we will come in at the low end of, or slightly below, the financial guidance we issued to the Street, and we have fallen short of the internal operating plan we set one year ago. And for that, I am 100 percent accountable.”

I see what his problem is, he should stick to selling games and stop being Ken Barlow's financial advisor.

I'm curious to hear what Trip Hawkins thinks of modern day EA.
It must be kind of disheartening to hear that the revered company he founded has now become hated by many :(

Maybe Trip will return to help bring the company image back?

likewise.

i have no issues with EA. they make awesome games.

I agree, they do release some awesome games but they have also done some pretty unforgivable things, most notably destroying/ruining some once-great developers and making "DLC" that should have been included with the games!

You don't need to be "hardcore" to see the harm they have done. Look at Dragon Age 2 for starters.

I doubt Bioware will ever again have the freedom they once had to make classics like KOTOR and BG again. It'll all be about $$$ now and not the game/community. That makes me sad. :(

I think the biggest issue with EA is that they are the biggest publisher with the most amount of decent IPs so every little fault over a large amount of AAA titles will be aimed at EA along with the bashing of EA controlling developers.

Yep, they have their crafty ways of making money but most of that is done to keep companies like Bioware going as alone I don't think they would be able to or they would be engulfed by Sony or Microsoft to make console exclusives. If you think about all of the three biggest game publishers have a bad rep, EA, Activison, Ubisoft I think EA more so just because the hold the largest spectrum of franchises. Plus to keep these big publishers going and the companies under them they need to produce these different ways of making profit if not they will end up like THQ.

I think the previous page said EA made $74 million profit? Which isn't all that bad, but if you consider Crysis 3 cost $66 million and BF3 was something like $100 in development/marketing that profit doesn't seem all that great! It would only be enough to cover one project.

I never know where I am going with these rants :p I just think for the amount of criticism these publishers get (much of it is actually very valid) the gaming industry is better with them than they are without.

Give that 3-5 years though once next-gen consoles and steam boxes become lead platforms and digital distribution will be the main purchasing platform meaning publishers won't have to spend out as much so they won't be involved as much in design choices.

Nothing will change.

EA will continue to rush games and remove any pride the devs had for games in turn for cash churning monkeys. It's a shame :(

this anyone who thinks it will change has just fell into their trap and the whole reason hes probably been layed off. gives people a idea of change. then they just continue on there path to rape video gaming as normal :p

Any changes that even come about will not be visible for 6-8 months. Even then they probably wont be all that visible to the customer.

Changing practices within a big corporation takes quite a large number of months.

some people have awesome IPs they don't do anything with.

In fairness Trip aint doing so well these days - he's a mobile games advisor in a company he founded which is laying off staff left, right and centre and never had recovered from the 3DO. (not slating the 3DO of course it had Space Hulk, Road Rash and Return Fire - 3 of the best games ever made). But it does sound like if he were in charge of EA then he would have pursued the same goals.

Most current IPs then :p Homeworld and such were great IPs but they wouldn't have much pulling power in today's mass market of gamers.

Plus Homeworld would be a PC only franchise if it were to stick to its roots as it would be too complex to run on a consoles.

As for EA nothing will change same way as nothing will change with any publisher as this is just how producing games is these days and will be until the market stabilizes and games can be produced at a much lower cost.
