Two men armed with weapons including a samurai sword and equipped with body bags and gaffer tape were arrested as they plotted to rob and murder the soul singer and actor Joss Stone, a jury has heard.

[En-route from Manchester to her home in Devon] their red Fiat Punto car was picked up by an automatic number plate recognition system on the M6 in Cheshire at 2.35am. Two hours later they filled up with petrol on the M5 in Gloucestershire and drove off without paying for it. As they left the service station, the car crashed into metal railings and a digger. The front of the vehicle was badly damaged and Gloucestershire police attended. Officers said they would report Bradshaw for driving without insurance and other offences. Police did not believe that the vehicle could be moved, so left the scene and did not search the car. The men were not put off and drove on to Devon. They got lost and showed a postman a picture of Stone and one of the men asked him where she lived, the jury was told. The postman told them he did not know.
Dear God, how much more harm can the human gene pool withstand

More to the point what kind of police officer doesn't have a look in a car of a person he doesn't pay for petrol and has no insurance

Most people consider themselves pretty clever compared to the rest of the population which can lead to problems. The thought process of "if it was that easy everyone would do it" never crosses their mind. In their heads, they are hatching a master plan.

Its like when people suggest simplistic solutions to complex problems as if the idea that some muppet with an IQ of 70 is able to come up with a better solution than groups of high educated experts in the field. When idiots surround themselves with idiots, they create a little microcosm where logic, knowledge and understanding hold no weight which can lead to somewhat..... strange ideas coming out.

One that knows the law. There is no power to search the vehicle in those circumstances.

Considering they had committed more than one offence; the fuel and the no insurance, the officer could have easily had reasonable suspicion under stop and search that they might have stolen goods or going equipt
