Montessori or Steiner/Waldorf Education

How about rather than looking at the philosophies of the individual schools you actually just go and see them in action and make a judgement from there. Little ones learn best through play and need kindness that is the important thing and what should guide your decision. Later on then maybe something different. But don't discount state schools they are designed to get children through the hoops that the state will assess them on, that society will then filter them on and that will set their path in life in motion. State school is good enough for my kids and they have attained good things. Rote learning is not utilised any more than anywhere else and to be honest somethings need to be learned that way.

Let me ask you this - do you drive? Were you taught to drive or taught to pass the driving test? Are your children graded on their intellectual capability or are they graded on exam results? Think about that ... Even failing schools have children getting straight A's - I am suspecting the parents were actively involved. But for every few kids that are pushed towards successful grades there are few that end up in paediatric mental health services with a variety of conditions - consider this when pushing for the unusual ...

And seriously do you refer every major decision on this child to the internet?

Jesus wept, what is it with people's attitudes on these forums. A person asked for opinions between two private educational options not a debate on state vs private.

To answer the ops question my wife and I looked at both of these schools and in the end would have opted for the steiner school. However she fell pregnant and we wouldn't want to treat our children differently and realised we could not afford to pay for them all to attend. Your best bet would be to find the nearest school of both and arrange a visit or attend an opening night and decide which will be best for your son.

On a final note, just because you have an opinion as well as a right to express it doesn't mean you should. In the same way you wouldnt go on a first date, get invited back to hers and then drop a three pound turd in her toilet.

He started a thread on an open forum and made an objectionable comment while asking for views on rather dubious education philosophies. What do you really expect - only people who agree with the OP to respond?... Lets all live in a world where we only listen to people who agree with views we've already formed and dismiss as negative/unconstructive anyone with a different opinion.

Pretty bad analogy... I doubt anyone is trying to seduce the OP or even cares too much about his reaction to their opinion... perhaps some people just don't necessarily want to see BS going unchallenged.
