Ok so im looking at buying a new canon DSLR soon (650D), like at the end of the month! I did a quick Google search and it appears as thou canon will be holding an event on either the 21st/22nd -

Found here @ ubergizmo.com

How reliable is this? If they do release a new line how quick will it ship? Pie in the sky questions i know but I don't want to rush into anything.

I have always liked the 60D but the 650D has better tech now and in rumorvile they are saying the 70D will have all that the 650D does but it will be better in different ways which interests me.

What im really asking is does any one know anything?

Many thanks

It depends on the product, lenses normally take longer from announcement to shipment. Bodies tends to be quicker, but usually weeks rather than months.

Nobody knows anything, except sometimes someone will leak a photo of a box, it is very much like how Apple do things.

from canon rumors

Canon EOS 70D Coming?
A few places are mentioning March 22, 2013 as an announcement date for Canon. We’re expecting the new Canon EOS 70D to be announced, and it will be a big step up from the EOS 60D in terms of technology.

Also expect some lower end PowerShots to be announced on the same day as the EOS 70D. There is no word on a lens announcement.

have a look on canon rumors site ,they are sometimes correct :p

They are correct about 2% of the time. If I made a site and said every day a new canon was coming I'd eventually be correct. God knows what makes me check that site every few days. The only scoop they ever get is when it's already been plastered across the net anyway. :D

i am the same i keep going back to it,
the mini eos on the front page looks interesting nice back up body or holiday body

DPReview are now reporting that there is a 700D update of the 650D and a new 100D, which is supposed to be the smallest and lightest DSLR available. Features on both seem to be primarily aimed at video rather than photography.

Nothing of interest for me then!

I'm definitely curious as to what they could add to the 650d in such a short amount of time? I doub't I'd consider upgrading since I have my sights set on something grander if I upgrade ;) but still... I'm curious!

WEX have just pinged me an email with a Canon 100D on it.

Looks like the same 18mp sensor has been rehashed again in a cheap looking body with a touch screen.

How lazy and arrogant do you have to be to stick out a product that offers absolutely nothing new and market it as innovation, and then charge over £500 for the privelage.

Have you even looked at what the camera specs? Its the size of the Panasonic G5 making it very small and light for a DSLR and the sensor has an improved version of the Hybrid AF. Do we really need another Megapixel arms race that gains nothing for the image quality? Look how noisy the A77 24MP sensor is even in good light.

I think the 100D looks great. Canon rumours are suggesting that the 18mp sensor is a new design and will be going in the new Rebel and 70D. Hopefully the sensor is a big step forward.

Yes of course I have and who mentioned anything about a megapixel race? What I said was Canon are rehashing the same 18mp sensor, there is a big difference.

So its the size of G5, great. Its still too big to be called compact and takes full size APS-C lenses so it may as well be the same size as a 650D. Only with this you are getting less than a 650D and being charged more.

And having owned an A77 before it got stolen I'd take the A77 sensor over any of the Canon 18mp sensors simply because of the amount of dynamic range it has.

Although dpreview are saying this about the 700D, "Elements carried over include the 18MP CMOS sensor". Sad face.

Stick a small prime 35 f2 or the 40mm f2.8 pancake and you've got a great light weight street shooter.

It is a shame Canon keep re-using the current crop sensor it almost says to me they've given up developing it with the expectation of everything moving full frame. It seems ages since they did anything new sensor wise in general.

100D is interesting due to its size. The APS-C sensor though means that lenses will still be large. Thus it is a strong competitor to the Sony Nex system, Sony should be really worried.
Coupled with any small primes and pancakes it will make a capable lightweight rig, once you add something like a 55-200 you end up with quite a large system again.

The M43 and Nikon 1 systems are separated enough since the smaller sensors allow for much smaller lenses. I walk out the door with my tiny Olympus emp-2 and 14mm f/2.5 Panny pancake for around 320g and can take great photos that easily match current Cannon crop sensors (and for that mater I don't see an IQ differences between my D90 and my Oly em-2 when normalised, the D90 sensors is marginally better than current Canon crop sensors).

I expect Nikon will follow Canon's lead here. Their Nikon 1 system is proving to be quite popular, DSLR like performance in a small body with small lenses. This leaves plenty of room for an APS-C sensor equipped camera with more prosumer features, this could be mirror-less but an OVF solution like the Canon 100D is probably more up Nikon's ally and more interesting to many photographers. I would certainly buy tiny Nikon DX DSLR with optical viewfinder and phase detect AF as a small backup to a larger Nikon full frame camera.

The complexity Canon has it is has a mirrorless system with APS-C sized sensors. So what is the difference between the Canon M series and the Canon 100D? The Canon M has terrible AF performance but you don't need to go back to a traditional OVF design to rectify this. nikon has prooved the hybrid approach can givee DSLR like AF performnace in the diminutive Nikon 1 series.

Does the Canon 100D spell the end of the Canon M?
