Tank taken out by hand held rocket Syria battle cam

Just show how weak the Russia built tanks are, an RPG would not kill a Challenger 2, would probably not even scratch it.

To be fair, the Challenger 2 was releaesd in 1992 while the T-72 was designed in 1967.

The differences are huge, this is why it wasn't uncommon in the Gulf War that entire enemy Tank companies was wiped out in hours without losses by our tanks.

I must say, I highly respect the tank crews of the SAA from seeing them work in these videos. Their skill in using their tanks and working together is very good and the danger that they face in Urban warfare must scare the crap out of them knowing that enemy could be anywhere with a RPG.

On top of that, everytime they fire their weapons it kicks up such a huge cloud of dust that blocks their vision must be scary. They don't have modern day optics like our vehicles do.

These are probably not original russian ones either but from batches made under license and don't have the original armor spec. Not to mention it was almost a textbook perfect penetration of the weakest part of the armor.

Can't say the skills displayed in that video were particularly impressive tho I don't know much of the details of what threats the were facing, etc. but positioning was bad and they didn't change it up after the tank was hit either with the background tank continuing to expose its rear to the enemy.

No idea if these tanks used in Syria have any updated, optics, etc. but a large number of them have been retrofitted with thermal imaging systems.

Most likley the third tank didn't change his position because they didn't know where the shot came from, they don't have damage indicators like we do in our games. ;)

What surpises me the most is why they didn't change their position after the tank was taken out, maybe the threat was already taken off or something.

But even then, he would only be explosing his rear to someone else, that's why urban warfare is so bad for tanks, it's so easy to flank vehicles and hit the weak spots.

Actually youre wrong. That is not just a simple 'RPG', its an RPG29 and they have successfully penetrated modern western battle tanks..including....dun dun dun.....the challenger 2.

Obviously a tank designed in the 60s is weak compared to modern tanks, but lets not get cocky here.

Quite possible, given that position and space they should have been using each other to shield the weaker rear section. (EDIT: Threat hadn't taken off if you watch the HD version in slow motion you can see the guy that got ejected from the tank comes under small arms fire as he runs for cover with bullets hitting the pillars and the ground behind him).

Looking it up seems that the retrofits were still in progress on the Syrian tanks when it all kicked off so probably less than 1/3rd have uprated optics, etc. (150 confirmed).

Some of the other videos these 72s have taken frontal hits from RPGs and still able to drive off tho obviously sustained enough damage to more or less put them out of any real action.

Gotta say, those tankers have some real huge balls..being in such a built up environment with no infantry support.

Or they are just crazy :S the whole thing seems to have gone nuts around that part of the world.
