Haswell - A few General Questions

Interesting. What games do you play with this?

Mostly World of Tanks and Civ V (both of which are CPU limited at 1680x1050) or indie games from Steam which are usually very undemanding graphically.

As I said, at some point I would like to upgrade to a 4K (or equivalent) display; until then however I'm confident that my trusty 5870 will continue to cope admirably.

I've been mad for Haswell, but I think I'll be sticking with my i5 750. The only thing it "struggles" with is video encoding and I don't do enough of that to spend hundreds on an upgrade - especially for a chip that does seem like it's mobile and IGPU orientated.

I'd like more cores. I should have bought an i7 and a motherboard that did 16x PCIE & Sata III instead of one or the bloody other but hey ho. I can wait.

There is around a 33% performance improvement in the iGPU and I use LucidLogix VirtuMVP which I paid for the pro version which gives me 20% extra performance on top of my GTX680 anyway and I am currently using a 3770k so this would really be a worthwhile upgrade; I could be seeing 150% graphics performance while using the 680; so that gives me close to SLI performance for significantly less as I have an ASUS DCII TOP 680 which retail at £500 on overclockers.

The 1gb on the 5870 would hold you back with many games, guess the ones you play are at low resolution.

I for one will be replacing my 5870 soon, solely because of the 1GB vram, I can really notice when I get pauses when the game has to use system memory instead etc.

I was thinking of waiting till haswell to upgrade but if the gains are really that minor I might just invest in a decent cooler and try to hit 4GHz. My cpu doesn't limit me yet I dont think, especially at 4GHz...
