A short but sweet email from AMD informs us that a patch for Tomb Raider is due tomorrow, giving a nice performance update for Radeon GPU owners - up to 25% more performance in some cases.

Quote:
Crystal Dynamics is releasing a new patch this Friday, that will enhance AMD Radeons performance significantly (up to 25%).
No details on the specifics of the increase, but it sounds promising.

Typical this would have to arrive right after i did my driver analysis thread. This means ill have to go back and test Tomb Raider.

Or about 20 minutes after I completed it :D

I still haven't got past the benchmark, same with Hitman. Still its nice knowing i have games of that quality in my locker as and when i get round to playing them rather than running just the benchmark. :D

Hahaha, bad luck... Nice thread btw, I just checked it out.

I hope 25% refers to single HD 7950 performance in particular :D. Interesting that this game was developed closely with AMD and yet there are still gains of any sort to be had. You guys might be unlucky but I haven't even played through TR yet!

Thanks. :)

25% is a massive increase in performance terms, huge.

Oh yeah, massive! I didn't mean to downplay the amount by my comment, I just meant even if it's only for certain setups in very specific situations (like 25% for crossfire using aa, or only for particular cards like perhaps the new 7790) it's still impressive. If it's even close to 25% for my own setup then... well, it'd be freaking amazing.

Yes sorry i didn't think you were down playing it, i was just surprised 25% is unheard of. Even the never settle drivers only boosted performance by 5-15%. Hopefully its for 7950/70 users and we will both be happy. I could do with a little bit more performance at 1440p ultimate to be honest. The patch that fixed nvidia stuff ended up harming amd performance sadly and my fps dipped a bit since that patch.

For sure, 79xx improvement would be great. Had no idea the Nvidia improvement patch hurt AMD performance o.O. Funny how that happens (not blaming anyone or anything by that comment :p).

It hurt TressFX as well. Its been glitchy ever since then, with the hair disappearing into her body etc. Hope the game devs fix that as well as the 25% performance increase.

Sounds like it was a regression then, really. In addition to the fixes you mentioned I also want Lara's bangs to comply with mavity when she's upside down. Crystal Dynamics did claim they would keep working on TressFx with AMD so there's hope it will keep getting/get better!

That's why i don't rush to play new Single player games, i wait for the patches first.

I've only been playing the benchmark a few times a day Finally, honest. :p

I think she's wearing one of those strapless wonder bra's. I'm not able to reveal exactly how i know this.

I would like to see some basic form of nipple erection implemented in a future patch. When temps drop nipples get hard, well mine do anyway.

LOL, I said bangs, not boobs! You know, hair... haha. But let's be frank, when has Lara ever not worn a Wonderbra...

P.s Thanks for the add :)

Sounds like you should be playing in 3D ;)

As I mentioned in the other thread thats because that patch fixed all the missing shader stages, post processing effects, etc. so more is being rendered than before the patch so thats why the framerate drops.

Changes to TressFX were due to people complaining about it floating off her shoulders but seems they are having some issues getting it clipping right.

Would seem that neither AMD or nVidia got the proper "final" version of the game until the last minute (I said it was a bit strange that somehow neither company noticed all the missing effects) hence why last patch + latest nVidia drivers resulted in a 18-35% performance boost depending on GPU and probably why AMD is now getting an upto 25% performance improvement.
