I was thinking of x firing my current card with exactly the same card but can't seem to find one new anywhere anymore. I'd be quite surprised if this card has been discontinued already due to it's popularity, but can anyone confirm?

Boo :-( I knew it's not full speed, but what's the performance decrease compared to a board that runs x fire at full speed, to big to be worth while?

5-20% slower. It will be ok in the short term and you should still see a nice boost in performance in most games but ideally you want a x8 x8 board sooner rather than later. Used x16 x4 6950>70 xfire myself.

It is mostly game dependent. While on average it may be 10-20% slower, but from what I've seen worst case scenario for x4 in a review (think it was one of the COD) was that two card was no faster than 1, and throw issues such as micro-shuttering in it would be jerkier despite having the same frame rate as a single card. And then also not to forget CF scaling is not always great as well...

That would be more likely a driver issue (COD) than an issue with a x4 board slot as i never encountered anything like that. Crossfire is supported on a x16 x4 board its just not the best way to run it.
