I have had my Cyborg Rat 5 mouse for just over a year well Christmas 2011!
For a couple of months the right mouse button was sticking now its completely gone:(
Dearest mouse i have had and its broken the quickest!
Can anyone show me or link me to how to dismantle it because even with all the screws taken out i can't get the bnutton covers off its like if i force them off its going to break?
Whats the warranty on these anyone know?
Thanks

Why are you even thinking of taking it to bits ? I don't even care if the warranty ran out after 12 months I'd still be kicking off for a replacement as it only lasting 13 months is not acceptable.

Warranty is for 2 years but good luck getting a rma, just found this article from someone.

Introduction:

I've owned the a Cyborg RAT since Christmas 2011 and it's been nothing but a headache.

Issue:

The mouse has to be on an absolute flat surface or else it will only partially work as your moving it - this means you can't game on the couch. With Logitech's gaming mice (G9X and G700), I was able to game on almost any surface with 0 issues.

The major problem came later, when the mouse would randomly change sensitivity settings while playing games and optical laser would not properly feed my direction, sending the cursor in various locations.

Warranty:

I called Mad Cats and kindly asked for an RMA / replacement. The representative then asked me if I had proof of purchase, I said yes. He asked me where I purchased it, I said at a computer tech shop online retailer (gave him the name) and he puts me on hold.

Rep comes back and tells me since the online retailer wasn't an official retailer, my warranty is automatically void and I have zero coverage.

At this point, I'm extremely frustrated and demand to speak to a manager. After 20 minutes of arguing, the manager authorized one single claim.

I'm then told that I (me) have to pay for insured postage from Ontario, Canada to San Diego, California out of my own pocket.

The mouse cost was 70.00$. An insured box to California is about 25.00$.

Manager then says the process takes several weeks and I'd be looking at 4-6 weeks of waiting.

Conclusion:

There's the story - Worst service ever.

They will try to avoid warranty claims as much as they can. These authorized retailers are big companies such as Tiger Direct and Newegg, but no one knows this until they actually make a claim. I had purchased mine from a Canadian computer store that wasn't on their "list".

On-top of that, you'll have to pay 1/3 of the mouse cost in shipping fees and wait 4-6 weeks.

Never, ever going with this company again.

I should have never left Logitech, who's treated me like a king over the years. If I would have had an issue with their gaming mice, they would have 2-day UPS'd me a free replacement and an RMA pre-paid shipping label for the damaged mouse.

Yeah I'd contact the shop you bought it from, that's not on! From Googling these products don't seem too reliable and with shoddy customer service from MadCatz.

edit// thats what I read too...

Thanks

Ive had a RAT 5 now for around a year and a half now and had no issues with it so far.

Hi yeah i know some people haven't had problems, but the reason i put don't buy one is that i googled and the right mouse button going seems common, also i suppose it depends on usage and luck:(

Use your keyboard for the moment (in daily tasks, not gaming). The key to the left of the right ctrl.

R.A.T mice are crap, built in acceleration and precision and are just made to appeal to younger gamers for their looks, do yourself a favour and buy a g400 or a deathadder or something.

I use the DeathAdder black edition (got it for £40!) and it's flawless, pinpoint precision. I like Razer mouses and had the Copperhead before this, it lasted me 4 years and only broke due to myself actually breaking it.

I have a Rat 9, its ****

Major headache getting a mousepad that it tracks properly on, then it still locks up and you cant move the pointer up or down.

Its also a bit lacking in features for the price I paid (would rather not reveal to save embarassment).

The ergonomics and being able to adjust them is a total gimmick, the default setup is the best and if you extend the backrest and find it comfortable you must have giant paws for hands.

I like the fact that its wireless and has hot swap batteries, but thats about it. Sniper button is uncomfortable to use and feels like a gimmick also.

I use a Logitech Performance MX now and I'm looking for a gaming mouse replacement for the rat 9. Not sure what to go for, I like the look of the mice with lots of buttons on the side so possibly a razer naga or logitech g600.

Just lucked at it now and can see the issues people are having. I mite just be lucky but I also suppose that most people won't post advising that the product is working as it should.

Just hope mine lasts a few more years don't fancy paying for another mouse

Not being funny or owt but why purchase an overpriced peripheral? Wanna know my gaming mouse? It's a bog standard Belkin...

Well it was bought for me and its handy having extra buttons for crouch, knife etc also the on the fly DPI adjustment was good for infantry/vehicles in BF3.

M60!!!

Wish I'd just got this in the first place and not even thought about the RAT5.
