and doesnt anymore, or sometimes fails to do so, would this suggest component/s are on the way out?
reason is i have one of the i7 920's at 4.00GHz.

how old is it?
what voltage are you on?

as Suarez says, CPU's can gradually degrade and need a small voltage bump to maintain the same overclock... it doesn't mean the chip is on it's way out neccesarily

Are the temps Ok ? Could just need a damn good clean out & some new TIM.

temps do seem fine although it could do with a good dust out to be fair.temps are at low 40s idle.have tried upping vcore but usually it just resorts to the same thing after a few days ie not posting first time .

corsair psu.
just got another bsod. attempt_non _execute memory or seomthing like that.

really tempted just to get a new cpu,mem and mobo.

have you updated the bios recently? each bios will be slightly different regarding voltages needed to remain stable,so you need to re do your oc with each bios version

its either cpu v or not enough qpi/vtt (cpu memory controller)voltage

what board is it? it shouldn't degrade,i ran 4.2ghz on a 920 do and gigabyte ud5 for 3years+ and it still performed like new

if I were you id flash to f12 bios,f13 isn't as good

and set qpi/vtt to 1.315v idk what amount you were using? and dram voltage can be 1.5v or 1.66v depending on your ram

There's your error bro. Thats the exact same BSOD I used to get when my RAM was going faulty. My browsers and games crashed often, then it would just BSOD out the blue.

Download memtest86 and check your sticks.

MY 920 X58 UD5A OC settings latest Bios, have used these settings from day one
