To go along side a 3930K on a Sabertooth X79 which would you pick....

16GB Corsair Dominator 1866Ghz

Or

16GB Corsair Platinum 1866Ghz

Is there any actual difference performance wise or is it just cosmetic?

On another note.... If you didn't pick one of the above what brand/type of memory would you pair up and why?

Thanks for any help

1. It overclocks like a DREAM. I have 8GB 2200MHz 9-10-10-21-1T-96 v1.6
2. It's low profile, it barely goes over the clips that hold it in place. 3cm tall I think?
3. It's 30nm, you won't need a heatsink as they barely heat up.
4. ~£99 vs ~£150+

The difference is cosmetic and the plats have a pcb that allows you to hook them up the corsair link ecosystem (if you care, I don't)

They won't overclock as well as the samsungs but you have to weigh that up against the fact that the plats look awesome and the samsungs look like bargain bin ram

Cosmetic is important as it'll be going in a watercooled 800D but since the Samsung is so small and on black pcb I doubt you would even see them lol

I think my mind is made up..... Cosmetic is important as I said but damn the extra performance at a lower voltage seals the deal for me, thanks for the heads up on this!

The black pcb is a saving grace, at least it doesn't look like true green-pcb value ram. It's a no B-S no gimmicks ram with the performance to match tbf.

I would never swap my plats out with this rig though, they're an aesthetic centrepiece underneath my mips iceforce

Platinum if you care about looks, Samsung Green if you want better performance for less, after all how many people actually look inside your PC?

Can sammy green be water cooled tho as they are quite short arent they?

Unless you're benching with the pros like 8 Pack and running ridiculously high frequencies and voltages, you won't need to. Heat spreaders are aesthetic basically. Why else would there be Vengeance and Vengeance LP, both with the same timings and speed... These Samsungs barely heat up all due to the 30nm process!

Oh its for the asthetics mainly in my new 24/7 build

i already have a pro set of DDR3 to bench currently on its way to me :P
