Hi All i have a panasonic tx-l42et5b t.v & i want to know if the brightness should be set higher than the contrast ? & should the CATS be set to on or off ?

I've got the same TV and would like to know the same thing. I'm happy with the settings I've got for the various settings. I've got the brightness and contrast set in the right ball park using the THX calibration tool I had on a couple of DVD's. I've changed the colour levels as well, but based solely on some settings I've seen on the net which isn't the best way of doing things.

I'm not sure whether it's worth doing a full blown calibration personally as my set is in bright light during the day, but we watch movies in the dark, so if we set it up for one, it messes up the other. At the minute I'm using the true cinema setting for my blu ray player, and just cinema mode for everything else, then I might calibrate each of these modes separately to solve the daylight/night time issue.

It's called the THX Optimizer and is included on a bunch of THX certified DVD's. A list can be found here, although I'm not too sure how up to date it is.

I think it's just a very basic version of some of the test patterns on the AVS disc neodude mentions. The colour thing is no use unless you've got a blue filter (which I don't), so I only ended up using the first two patterns.
