*** The Official Nokia Lumia 620 Thread ***

There is one other issue / bug, with the firmware.

If you try to restore from a back (only possible when doing initial set-up) You have to have a mobile data connection to restore.

But with O2 branded firmware my Orange SIM could not connect until I had completed set-up and altered the APN.

So watch out when trying to restore a backup with branded firmware. MS might fix it an allow wifi restore.

How many of you 620 owners have moved over from Android?
What is the experience like compared to Android?
I'm thinking of getting this for the wife whose SGS1 is now failing.

I've had all three, the Nokia is the best "phone" I've ever had. Might not be the best at apps and stuff but 90%+ of the time I don't need it to be.

Hardware is nice, and the battery life is very predictable.

There is less apps for Windows Phone, but I don't use apps that much.

Pretty much just use it as a phone, camera, and web browser.

It has the main apps for most things. But if you see something advertised as having an app on TV, it won't be Windows Phone.

If you are needing tons of games etc Windows Phone is not ideal.

Is anyone able to offer advice regarding MMS with an unlocked 620? I'm using mine on Virgin PAYG (which piggybacks on EE, I believe) and I am unable to send or receive picture messages.

There is an app for W7 phones on the app store but obviously that is no use on the 620.

TIA

Settings -> Access Points -> Select Virgin.

If this doesn't work then you need to contact Virgin

Got one of these the other day and it's made a very positive first impression, so it's a bit of a worry that Windows Phone 8 will only be supported by Microsoft until July 2014.

source: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/Windo...Phone-8-Support-Updates-Cycle,news-43215.html

I'm a bit confused because the report is quite upbeat about this, saying "The end of support dates can therefore assure users that, while their products may outlive their expiration dates, there could be a stream of regular updates to come in the meantime"

Dear god this again, WP8 wont be on your phone in 2014, by then it'll be WP8.5, or WP9, or Blue or what ever, that gets a new service support for about 2 years after that, so unless you are not going to bother with any of the BIG update to the newer overall versions, that the only time you have to worry.

ok, ok! I consider myself firmly put in my place. I didn't get that they literally meant only version 8.0

Useless Nokia

Just had an email from the River, my protective shell that was due this week will now be delivered "in one to three months"

This seems to be happening with all the mobile / tablet companies, launch a product, list the OEM accessories ...

THEN TAKE MONTHS TO RELEASE THEM

Thanks for the replies. Finally got it sorted after getting through to a second line guy at Virgin.

I had done the Access Point settings, but they hadn't enabled it correctly on their end (or something). I'm not well practiced in phone magics :)

Nifty little phone, though. Nokia seem to have the camera and maps bang on the money, just need a few more people to start giving Windows phone stuff a proper go. Still, it's been cheap enough to write it off after a year or so if it doesn't work out.

Picked up a Lumia 520, yesterday, which I am loving.

So far as I can tell, the only major differences to the 620 are a larger battery (1430 mAh vs 1300 mAh) and screen (4" vs 3.8"), there's no front facing camera and it's squarer.

Plus it was a little bit cheaper on O2 (albeit with a jazzy red back which, despite growing on me, I'll be probable change when Nokia release other colours) :)

Very slick interface and pretty intuitive.

Also has no camera flash or NFC.
