Hi guys, i was going to piggyback somone elses thread with regards a simmilar question but thought it was probs a bit rude.

I'd like to overclock my Sapphire HD 7850 2048MB as high as it can go safely just within the afterburning thing but honestly i dont have a clue what im doing in there, perhaps better to play and learn on my own but i've broke way to many things over the years doing it that way :(

Cheers folks :)

Afterburner i think limits you to 1.25v. You should be safe up to that providing you can keep your card cool enough so that it remains stable. Try to keep it below 70-75c.

Cool cheers, one last thing how high should i push the core and mem clock? Need to get hold of that 3d mark quick sharp i think. Dont have any spare cash kicking about just yet tho.

If only there was some sort of sticky thread in the Graphics forum for overclocking a 7850 :D

I did see that one but its for going past 1050 and useing other things other than the afterburing the card comes with so didnt wanna post in there. ;)

I think 7850s are guaranteed 1100 on the core and 5500 on the memory, I got mine up to 1200 5800. But I was pushing 1.25v as I had arctic acceleros on them

Unless you unlock the limits in the Afterburner config file, which for the 7850 I think you can only do with the latest Beta, I think if I remember well you will be limited to 1050 on the core clock and 5800 on the memory clock.

You would be really quite unlucky if your card didn't clock to 1050 on the gpu core without any trouble, or increase of voltage (it might take a little increase in voltage if your on the unlucky side). As for memory I would go straight in for 5600 to start and try a little more if it works well.

Its not usually all the great to suggest you just go straight for 1050 and 5600, normailly you would increase in small amounts and see how far you can push. However I have one myself and with the huge thread dedicated to them I can say I havn't seen one not reach and surpass these numbers with relative ease!

Ah ok i think i've figured it out. maybe. Do you times it by 4? In the afterburner? I downloaded the asus gpu tweak out of interest and on there it says mem 4800 but in the after burner it says 1200

Ah, its DDR5 memory on the 7850's so effectively 1450 (x4) is 5800. It just I use Asus GPU tweak and it shows the 'effective' memory clock.

If its showing the clock like that I suggested 5600 which would be 1400!

Right i've put my voltage up 20% GPU clock to 1050 and mem clock to 1400. Gonna do a burn in with furmark and see what happens.

Let it run for a fair bit, didnt reach over 56c and on ultra only 30fps ave but i was more bothered about the temp, should be able to push it a bit more within ati AB alone. Dont wanna faff on with 3rd part overclocking tools really.

Urm ok. So i ran the bioshock benchmark before overclocking and got
Ave Min Max
60.35, 17.39, 105.66,

And after overclocking

Ave Min Max
42.75, 14.53, 77.83

lol wtf?

Sounds good to me, 56c is not bad at all. My card gets upto about 62c on load. Ye that Valley bench is quite quite demanding on Ultra, its nice when you can get a 30fps + from it on Ultra, means you will fly in games! :)
