I had an accident in dec 2011 in the works van (Centrica)

is this declareable on my own personal car insurance?

my reasoning is no because the claim is between the third party and centrica not myself yes?

centrica are self insured btw

Well the question is usually "any accidents, claims or convictions in the last 3 years" so even a yes, no, no isn't going to be all that different to a yes, yes, no.

but all the documents relating to the accident have it down as centrica not myself.

on the court papers it said claim between defendant (centrica) and other party

You were driving. You have had an accident.

The question isn't 'Is there some paperwork somewhere with your name on it relating to an accident' its 'Have you been involved in an accident'.

Technically if its worded 'have you had an accident?', then you have. Personally, I would be naughty and say no even if I did have an accident in a company van. I'm not taking a hit on my personal insurance for a supermarket. Touch wood haven't bumped anything of grass in 1.5 years.

Was renewing my insurance tonight and they asked something along the lines of "Have you had any accidents or claims in the past 3 years even if they weren't your fault and something else about incidents that you didn't declare." Can't remember exact wording but I think they have their bases well covered as far as the wording goes.

if your renewing, ring and ask the insurance company.

If your doing quotes, ring the top three companies giving you the best policy for the best cash and ask.

some companies dont require work incidents, some do. Not really worth taking a risk in my opinion, but my view is biased

My employers are self insured too, during my recent driver CPC training course, this topic came up.

We were told to declare any work related incident - no matter the fault or lack of - as a few drivers previously haven't, and after a claim, their insurers have contacted the company for details of any incidents involving said driver and the fleet dept disclosed it, with dire concequences for the driver who'd said he'd had no claims.....

Apparently, this is common with large fleet operators.
