Girl found dead in house with dogs 'out of control'

Show me a scientific paper that proves one breed is more dangerous than another........ untill then, everything on dangerous dogs is anecdotal.

A study on the American Pitbull terrier found the breed specific laws on it were not justified, as statistically, it was no more likely to cause injury than any other breed. Another study found dangerous breeds of dog contribute a minute fraction of dog related injuries admitted to A and E, and that the dangerous dogs act has had no effect on A and E admittance since the dangrous dogs act 1991 was created.
Jaw strength & size over aggression is the "danger".

While Dachshunds may indeed be more likely to bite, you have to factor in their ability to kill.

While may be more aggressive.

Is less dangerous than.

It's amazing how people only focus on aggression & ignore jaw strength, size & ability to reach the throat.

About 3 miles from my old house before I got out of the area. Knowing the area, it is no surprise. Full of scrotes and scroungers without 2 brain cells between them. One less to breed and I don't know why people are so shocked. Have a walk around the area and you'll understand.

Harsh, but true and of course never reported.

Try explaining that to Kenai.

It's always staffies isn't it

They ARE dangerous dogs. It's just the same as saying Americans should ban guns. It's not the guns fault but the person shooting. Whilst I agree, it still means you shouldn't allow guns.

Just look at their jaw power FFS! Pitbulls are banned, why not these? How many other murders are we going to allow before doing something?

I've never heard of a Cavallier King Charles mauling someone to death

Dogs can be good or bad. The problem with staffies is that when they are bad they can easily kill. You get a bad sausage dog and the worst it can do is a nasty bite.

There's lots of people out there who love the breed and look after them well. The problem is the other people who don't. Unfortunately it's those people who are going to ruin it for everyone else.

Sorry, but they have a bad reputation and need banning.

My Mini Dachshund is more aggressive than my staffs were..:

Stupid point.

I could pick up a Dachshund and throw it, I could probably do the same with most dogs. But I couldn't do that to a staffie without injury.

Therefore just ban (to the public) every dog that an average person can't control. Nobody is going to miss the ugly things anyway.

Yes your Dachshund will still savage the local children but then a small girl could pick it up and stick it in a bin. Problem over.

my 2p, the only reason people 'like' to own dogs like this is the 'im well hard' image...if you wanted a dog as a companion, you would have a dog for being 'well known' to be gentle and non aggressive.

Thing funny thing is, when I see someone (usually a asbo unemployed thug) with one of these things in the street, I don't thing 'hey man cool', I think 'what a nob!'

If one of these dogs was walking towards me with my 20month old I'd be dam scared tbh... as I know to remove one from my sons head would be near on impossible

irresponsible idiots

edit: I suspect some mastiff / staff owner will pipe up to this post, but before you do, think long and hard why you have this type of dog... to impress others, and I'm not impressed... well, other than your stupidity and lack of respect of others safety.

edit ps: these are not pets, these are land sharks... round them up, put them in a field, and bomb the *&^&*(& (to coin Kenny Everett), the world would be a better place

I like how some people have commented on the attractiveness of dogs., its like they base their decision on how sexually aroused they are lol.

I agree with the past two posts

They have been engineered over time to be a fighting dog, so why keep them in a family home. It's just crazy! Really crazy!

I'd never have a dangerous dog near my kids. Yeah, you can get one from a breeder and they may seem to be nice and friendly but what if they turn?

What if my two year old walks in and starts waving their jam and toast in front of them. Just takes the dog to be in a bad mood and things could turn very ugly very quickly.

Agreed, little ankle snappers like jack Russell's and other small dogs are more aggressive than staffys in general, but lets me honest a quick kick across the room sorts them out :D

Indeed, there's nothing unique and special about these dogs, so why not get something that is more suitable.

If you want a dog for protection (genuinely, not because you're a drug dealer), then there are options for that such as properly trained dogs like Fett (in Motors) has - see this thread.

Need Dog licenses again...

Yes, anyone who wants a dog needs to apply for a licence. I'd go a step further and on the application state who lives in the house and the times they are away at school/work etc etc

Based on that the licence would dictate what breeds they can keep

Example a little old lady on her own wants a dog for companionship. She can't walk very far due to her health. The licence would stipulate that she can't have a greyhound :D

I have one of these dogs, because i went to the RSPCA to rehome a dog and 85% of them were staffs or mixed with staffs.

i had no issue rehoming a staff.

so your dog as it has a unknown past is even more unpredictable ?, even not being a dog owner I would say this is true

Rehoming a unwanted dog like this even through a act of kindness is still not on.....

Can I ask what you love about these dogs ?, teeth ?, bite ?, image ?

I just hope to god you never let it near children or lose control of it

edit: I would have a issue if you let it within 10m of my children

Oh boy, what a pathetic post. My partner has a history of rehoming dogs that have had awful pasts, bringing them up and giving them another chance like everyone deserves. We took an EBT/Staff cross for this very reason. He's covered in scars across his stomach and was completely afraid of everything due to the abuse he'd taken. With extreme work and care we now have an excellent dog.

He has some temperament issues with other dogs, and for that reason we don't let him off the leash unless we know we can (for example there are certain dogs he gets on with so we agree when to meet the owners and let him socialise).

So no, not everyone takes these dogs for image reasons - but yes, unfortunately a lot of people do and this is why they have a bad reputation.
