iphone 5 or xperia z

I'm due an upgrade on tuesday and can't decide what to get. I've always had iphones in the past and got on well with them but I hate being tied to itunes. Currently using a GS3 and while I prefer android I hate this phone. Are the new phones smoother and faster than the GS3?
 
I'd probably get the iPhone 5. I found the Xperia Z very underwhelming considering the specs.

The GS3 was (and still is) an excellent phone so if you didn't like that I can't see you liking the Xperia either...

If you like Android then get a HTC One or Galaxy S4, not the Sony.
 
sony is a good phone, if you don't mind the viewing angles it is great tbh! :) not really matching the one/s4 but it won't lag around either - cpu/speed wise it will be similar to s3, so logically if you want something snappier but don't mind an average camera get HTC one.. if you want all around performance and don't mind plastic get s4
 
I have gone from the s3 to the XZ and the xperia is definitely faster. I use my mates s3 at work sometime. The samoled screen has deeper colours and better viewing angles but it's not very bright and in sunlight the XZ is a lot better.

Why don't you like the s3 if you go for any of the new phones they're not a big upgrade over the s3.

What don't you like about it?
 
If you want raw performance though wait for the S4 or HTC one, they should be faster than the XZ.

Tough call as the XZ is actually the best phone from last year though it feels bad in the hand and has loads of Sony idiosyncrasies, there's loads of XZ vs ip5 vids on yt and try to get some hands on in a couple of shops.

Tbh if it was me choosing between those 2 phones, for some weird reason, I'd go for the ip5 purely because its resale value would hold so I could just sell for v little loss if I didn't like it.
 
If you are looking at android phones, I would look at the htc one, gs4 or nexus 4 instead.

Although wait till May for key lime pie and to see what is happening with the motorola/google x phone.
 
As others have said, really would recommend the One or GS4 over the XZ if you want to go with Android. Put simply - they are better phones.
 
Not really fussed about the GS4, i hate plastic. I also hate the way it feels in the hand (too light and thin). Ever since JB the GS3 is slow and unresponsive, I'm on the omega rom now and while battery life as improved, the phone is too slow. When I close an app I get a blank screen for about 5 seconds before the springboard comes back.

All I want is a good phone for music, half decent camera as I use it for work, no itunes junk and something that is smoove?
 
Disable S-voice/google now or whatever it is in the settings, some one will need to confirm where that is though.

Then the HTC one, xperia z or nexus 4 sounds like your best choices.

something is clearly up with your s3.. my s2 takes no time to open what i ever i use..
 
Are those early ultra cheap deals listed earlier in the XZ thread still available £24 pm and nowt upfront weighs heavily in favour of the XZ.
 
I was in the exact same prediciment a couple of weeks ago and went for the Z. Assumed I was gonna hate it because of the size, but already whenever I pick my 4s up, the 4s feels really small and difficult to use.

Assuming Im not in some honeymoon phase, the Z is the best phone Ive had to date. The viewing angle argument is ridiculous to be honest.. they are fine. You might not be able to watch a movie at 170 degrees, but eventually you learn to cope and view it straight on like a normal person does

No lag, brilliant display when the bravia kicks in, and a camera better than the 4s which was no slouch. Plus weatherproofing

Considering voda wanted £250+ for a iphone5, or a Z for free, it was a no brainer for me
 
Yeah, im loving it. Slightly dubious though, as I remember feeling the same about the sony xperia Arc I had before my 4s. Loved that for about a month then pretty much hated everything about it :p

Different league though, and no more ericson badge, so feels like a premium product. Well, it just feels like a massive 4s to be totally honest : )
