Girl found dead in house with dogs 'out of control'

True. There are too many people casting judgement, when they have probably never owned a dog, and will never understand the role the owner has on their dog's behaviour.

Like most of these stories that come out, there is nearly always some critical extra information the story is missing and comes out later... until then, people will make sweeping judgements.

What do you expect of a nation where The Sun newspaper is the most read paper? Says it all really.

Ignorance is bliss, or so they say...

Of all these stories the main thing I remember is the owners in 99 percent of the cases are low IQ unemployed scummy folk.

This is a point that can't be ignored. The breeds are under so much scrutiny here when I'd confidently say the blame is almost wholly through irresponsible owners.

Who in their right mind owns 5 dogs. How can you care for them properly in an average sized house. Right away it's clear the house owner is retarded.

comon everyone. The estate where this happened is full of low lifes. Low lifes with dogs that are capable of killing and the type of people that should not own them.

Until the politians legislate against low lifes owning these type of dogs this will continue to happen.

Yes these dogs (and many others) are capable of serious damage in the wrong hands. It is the owners at fault and very rarely the dogs themselves.

So why all bicker and fight over it, well it is the internet and the level of argument here is what I expect to find on such estates.

Get your heads out of the sand and see it for what it is. A crap estate, with crap families with no respect or intelligence for their actions = Darwin in action.

Wish this stuff didn't make the papers really.

Stops stupid people owning stupid dangerous breeds of dog.

The dog is the owners responsibility.

Dogs can be used as a weapon and when that happens owners should be responsible.

No need for me to answer that for you it's been answered perfectly here by Dimple..

Is there any evidence that the dog owner is a stupid person?
Is there any evidence that the woman used these dogs as a weapon?

So, what you're saying then is that if 'Variant X' of some larger group with commonality is involved disproportionately more in an undesirable or dangerous activity than other variants within that larger group, we should be rid of it?
(Butting in here)
We don't have guns because some people are stupid. These decisions are made for the good of society, not for protecting an individual's right to own lions.

Want a dog? Choose one from a list of breeds that are weaker than humans, stop leaving the control issue in the hands of owners.

Germany shepherds are stronger than humans, we gonna tell the police to only use chihuahuas in the fight on crime?

No.. Stupid idea.

We don't have guns because there is absolutely no need to own one and thus no reason to spend money policing and licensing it. What have lions got to do with gun ownership?

Why don't we extend this argument to everything? Want a car? Choose one from a list of cars that doesn't have enough power to exceed 70mph.

If you're going to butt in, at least make a point worth noting.

e: to my post that you quoted, is your answer yes or no?

Stupid point.

I could pick up a Dachshund and throw it, I could probably do the same with most dogs. But I couldn't do that to a staffie without injury.

Therefore just ban (to the public) every dog that an average person can't control. Nobody is going to miss the ugly things anyway.

Yes your Dachshund will still savage the local children but then a small girl could pick it up and stick it in a bin. Problem over.

Far from a stupid point, Just highlighting that some breeds are more aggressive by nature than others.

Of course the difference is that a Staff, mastiff or similar have the ability to do damage or death where a Dachshund would just fly across the room from the end of your arm.

Branding staffs etc killers and banning them is not the answer. As a breed they are known to be good tempered. No need to eradicate them because people parade them round like a Nuke on a leash.

This could go on forever, end of the day some people love them some people don't..

We don't have guns because we made a decision to balance people's want versus socities perception of need. Other countries differ like the US.

We already limit cars. You may want a F1 car on your drive but you can't have one.
Nearly everything is limited by society, dogs should be included in this (hence the lack of lions)

Germany shepherds are stronger than humans, we gonna tell the police to only use chihuahuas in the fight on crime?

No.. Stupid idea.
In an earlier post I specified that this applied only to the general public.
Either way the distinction is inherently obvious.

Isn't that then a good reason not to let people own staffies?
Get a collie.

I'd like a nuclear weapon, in standby mode it's great with kids, some even call it a nanny weapon. However I revoke my desire to have a nuclear weapon because some people in N.Korea like to press all the wrong buttons.
I'm happy that I can't own one so so long as they can't own one.

I've seen my parents neighbor be dragged to the floor and pulled along by two mastiffs... totally out of control

You think I'm a moron ?... maybe to a dangerous dog owner, but put it this way, I almost crapped myself.. and the poor little old lady who attracted their attention almost had a coronary

Apparently they 'didn't like old people' ...pathetic

I've also witnessed dogs who apparently 'dont like children'

These things are lethal weapons...

Heh, our family dog used to drag me by the trouser leg when somebody was at the door or when he needed to go and had been ignored.

You do understand your anecdotes don't particularly represent the entire breed? Most owners of such dogs have them put down if they ever show aggression, other than the idiots who want them to be aggressive.

Isn't that then a good reason not to let people own staffies?

Those people are still gonna be a problem regardless of whatever dog they do or do not have.

I've trimmed your quote. These are all lovely, albeit tenuous and in parts incorrect, deviations from the central point, so I shall ignore them.

You're going down a dangerous path of suggesting nobody involved in a situation is fit to make a decision on it; to take your position to its extreme, we society should limit who can breed. I'm not suggesting that you are a believer in that extreme, but then you compare owning a dog to a lion so I do have to wonder if you have the mental competency to provide any value to this debate.

I'd like a nuclear weapon, in standby mode it's great with kids, some even call it a nanny weapon. However I revoke my desire to have a nuclear weapon because some people in N.Korea like to press all the wrong buttons.

I no longer have to wonder.

If there is a possible outcome of harm to others then this is where soceity makes a judgement. Some people are incapable of owing staffies without harming others, I'm happy to remove the right to ownership of that breed for everyone to solve that problem.
A staffie is just one dog amongst many, not to have one is no big deal, they are ugly dogs anyway.
Equally I'm happy to have a cat instead of a lion.

Even on breeding we define if a person I'd mentally capable of understanding what they are doing, as their abilities will impact on child rearing.

Could you lose the superior attitude please Theophany, I regard you as one of the better posters and I don't want to feel bad about that position. A ludicrous example still retains a point.

Those people are still gonna be a problem regardless of whatever dog they do or do not have.
Yes, they will, but I'm less afraid of a pimped out gangster collie than I am of an abused staffie.
