when the software is properly coded to take advantage of the multicore nature of the CPU or for that matter, GPU
which is part of the problem... this is where problems with performance and microstutter come in... it doesn't really matter if the GPU's are stitched together on a single package or not, if there's a problem with a particular game on mulit-core CPU's or GPU's then the offending game runs like it's being run on a much lower grade of chip
things have gotten a lot better in respect of mulit-core CPU's as they've become more widespread, lets hope the same happens with multi-GPU related technologies
One of the key things here will be bringing two dies together on package with low latency and ability to share memory space so the driver/architecture can be focused to work in such a way. SLI/xfire is and always has been a work around, they work as two separate units in a not bad, but not perfect way because they are designed around the limitations of high latency, low bandwidth communication and so load balancing and working on the same frame brings with it so many issues. Multi-cpu's work smoother because the crapload of on die logic and no problem switching data from one core to another seamlessly has basically been there since day one of the second core being added, and has only improved over time.
Ultimately once you move the second die on package and improve communication to almost on die speeds/latency, xfire/sli will pretty much be done from the ground up to work very differently to now.
What is it with AMD people, Fraps shows AMD cards have worse stutter, can't fix it so let's just say Fraps isn't valid anymore. Don't have a Titan-beater so let's start calling a multi-GPU card a single.
So, nonsense from what I can only believe is an Nvidia fanboy? Did I say the 7990 was a "single" gpu, no, I said if/when AMD stick two dies on the same package and can basically do things very differently, they'll be able to completely change the way xfire works and there is no reason to believe it would perform noticeably differently to a single GPU, same will go for Nvidia.
Someone stated as fact it was a dual gpu card, I merely suggested the possibility it will be a new breed of multi gpu card.
The fact is on multiple dies on the same package using new tech is coming THIS year, and AMD has worked on this for console chips which ARE in production and have been for some time. Its a possibility and I like the idea they MIGHT have gone this way for the 7990... considering its about eleventy billion seconds too late to be remotely interesting as a card without it, nothing more or less than that.
As for AMD latency, no clue about fraps, I haven't used it in ages, it actually got really dodgy around win 7 release, I forget what the issue was but it was mis reading frames, I'm sure its fixed but ultimately I like smooth, not a number, I can feel smooth without a number so why do I need something else installed. But, AMD is working on latency and has fixed the latency issue in some games, and are working on it for further games.
So basically nothing you said was accurate, well done.
