Battlefield 4 Thread ~ Server details in opening post ~

gonna be another fun 2k hours!

Ouch! 2000 hours?! That's:
  • nearly 12 weeks...
  • 83.3 days..
  • 16% of the total time available since release (25/10/2011)...
  • 48% of your free time, assuming there's only really 8 hours of free time available to someone who works for 8 hours and sleeps for 8 hours.

Generally underwhelmed. I would have bought BF3 without seeing any gameplay as I knew I would like the game but this one just didn't impress me all that much to the point I would probably be more interested if I hadn't seen the footage. Certain things look better but not massively so, then again BF3 was a large leap so it was unlikely it would be quite as large this time.

The main problem being, I don't like CoD. It's really not my sort of game. I don't do single player due to not being able stand playing with/against AI, just going by that 17 minute clip you can see this isn't a huge concern for them. Unfortunately as has been stated to make money they have to tap the CoD fanbase which means that for a franchise over a decade old to try and move away from what made it different just means that the fanbase lose out which is a shame.

People will moan about it not being finished and we haven't seen the multiplayer but the fact that they again chose to show single player content and are focusing so much on single player which none of the franchise core fanbase have ever cared about simply proves that they are not the intended audience any longer. Dice/EA will say what they have to but you never get interviews where the questions the real fanbase want know get asked or if they are in the loosest terms they get glossed over (or for a few of BF3's just plain lie).

Also, he's playing with a controller.

Yeah, I did notice that the AI seemed pretty damn poor. I haven't finished the single player BF3 as they couldn't be bothered to make the quick time events match the fact that I have my mouse buttons swapped over.

I still enjoyed playing BF2, BC2, BC2 Vietnam and BF3 a lot in multiplayer. To be honest I'd like a new BF release. The first few months is always the best, there always seems to be a buzz about a new release and people are all learning the maps/weapons.

How is it unnecessary crap  I still can't believe people turn settings down even when they have decent hardware, enjoy your 800x600

hahaha u belong on the BL forums..

my game how ive got it setup with fxaa injector 1080p with everything on low except Mesh.. still looks better then everything on the standard ultra settings with HBAO 4x MSAA etc

if u had the slightest clue about BF3 u would understand why people play with everything turned off and it has nothing to do with gaining advantage in seeing things first but ill let u figure that one out urself!

I play all low except mesh quality on ultra to get near 120fps as possible....the difference between 60 and 120 is a huge amount in an online fps game.I play at 1920x1080 res still though most playing on these settings tend to go with 1280x720 however people play how they want who cares.(obviously when it first comes out i'll have it maxed to see how it is :p)

The game itself looks better on animations, water and smoke/particle effects which to be honest was the only things you could improve a noticeable amount from BF3.

The one big problem in BF3 single player was the scripted nature of events. So many times throughout the story mode your control over your character is taken away and you're reduced to watching a cut scene with the occasional QTE thrown in to make sure you're still awake. Until they stop doing that it's going to be boring.

The other big problem is obviously AI, which always tended to break suspension of disbelief. I hate it when you're in the middle of a massive battlefield and enemies seemingly ignore the other dozen soldiers around you and go just for you, and they way that they seem to have eagle-like vision and they can spot you if you poke your head out of an alleyway 50m away. Hope they fix that **** too.

This is what all injector users say.

I think it's utter tosh. It's all about gaining an advantage end of. IMO it's nothing more than a legal cheat, one that seems to have been accepted by the community 'cos you're accused of being an idiot if you don't agree

He's spent around 48% of his free time on BF3 since launch, so I doubt you'll convince him otherwise. As a casual player I don't actually know what the game looks like on low, so can't comment on whether it's an advantage or not. I've never bothered to check.

Seems to defeat the purpose of having a nice machine though. What with this being a PC enthusiast website and all.

I have to admit though, that Crysis 3 looks almost too good. It's very difficult to spot enemies in SP as there is so much to look at.

Am looking forward to it.

Character models have always impressed me, especially when their face is well detailed. I am hoping BF4 has done a fair bit of detail on it, by the videos it looks like they have :)
