Hi All i,m looking at different Calibration blu rays for a t.v and wondered if anyone uses the Disney WOW -World of Wonder one ? it looks easy to use which is what i want , any info would help

afaik, it is impossible to properly calibrate a tv without using a camera, hooked up to a pc running calibrating software.

these things are more like adjusting a tv than calibrating it. also there are far better ways and guides on adjusting a tv over at avforums.

It's true that you can't make accurate adjustments to the individual R,G,B colour level. But there's still a lot of very important adjustments that can be done with a test disc.

I use Video Essentials HD Basics for quick tune-ups. I can set brightness, contrast, sharpness and master colour level. This last setting require the use of the supplied colour filter to view a special test pattern. This is something that you won't get in the various downloadable discs and it's not in the discs with the THX test patterns either.

The other things that can be done are checking overscan and assessing whether the TV's digital picture enhancement circuits help or harm the picture.

Make all the adjustments detailed above and your TV performance will improve immeasurably.

It will let you set brightness, contrast and sharpness etc.

The only think that the Disney wow disc will help with over this, is a lip sync tool. I'd tried and failed for ages to adjust my lip sync correctly, with the wow disc it took seconds. I did all my other settings with the AVS disc. I'm pretty happy with the picture though the colour won't be that accurate obviously but it looks good to me.

the thing is it won,t be a s good as a THX calibration done by a pro , as they will use better equipment etc :) maybe worth the money in the long run :)

depends on the TV though.

IMO the only tv's worth calibrating are top end panels. Calibrating also costs £200-£300. Therefore not exactly cheap. My 50" GT50 is costing me £700 so £300 on calibration is roughly 50% of the cost of the tv.
