Show us your kitty cats

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the messages it means a lot, just got back from the vets he went peacefully, I must be honest now it's done I/we feel a lot better. I managed to stay with him while the vet administered the injection which I am happy about as I was the last person he saw. The vet thinks being the runt of the litter he probably had abnormalities from birth nd his kidneys never fully developed. Either way what's done is done we just need to make sure his brother and sister don't share the same fate. So they are booked in at the end if the month for bloods.

@krooton: we have had lilies in the house over the course of his life but I would say it would be less than 4 times. I think if anything his diet of primarily dry food strained his kidneys but that's another debate I think. They've always had plenty of water and drank well but my own feeling is that we should try and give them wet food on a more regular basis. Up till now they've only ever had Sheba chicken domes as a treat once of twice a week.

Thanks
B

It only takes a good sniff.

FWIW, and it might be of use to other people.
We have a large dish of dry food available to our 4 all the time.
They graze on it through out the day.

We feed them wet food, Felix as good as it looks ocean feast, 1/2 a pouch each twice a day morning and evening.

And boy does that cat food look tasty. I have been tempted on several occasions to give it a try. I want to know if it really does taste as good as it looks.

You have to be trolling. Felix and the majority of cat foods you can get at your local supermarket are the equivalent of us eating mcdonalds.

nopes, not trolling for once.

My 16y/o Dylan is still a full on cwat, and thats been his diet for years, well variations of Felix.
I dont think he looks unhealthy, unhappy or suffering from years of a poor diet and the vet is surprised how good his health is for a cat of his age.

What do you feed yours, fresh organic halal beef that has been blessed by Tibetan monks and served by virgins?

Mine refuse to eat Felix as well now.

They get natures menu or James wellbeloved wet food twice a day, biscuits get topped up when they need it, and at night a handful of james wellbeloved dry food each.

I think we should maybe feed our kitten more wet food but she seems happy. At the moment she has a bowl of James Wellbeloved Turkey & Rice down all day and we only give pouches as a treat on a weekend.

We've got a selection of quite a few pouches now when we used our 10% Pets at Home voucher - James Wellbeloved, Science Plan and Purely - so might start giving her one a day.

Trouble is it makes her breath/litter tray/farts stink!

Most supermarket and normal branded food is high in vegetable protein and carbs, which cats aren't really designed for.

At a push for supermarket available wet, Butchers Classic has no cereals or veg protein, same with some types of Encore and Hi-Life.

Felix/Go-Cat/Whiskas is all trash food. If your cat is in ok health on them, chances are they are allowed outside, and are supplementing their dietary needs on mice/birds/insects.

I feed raw personally.

Have you seen the amount of meat/fish in felix as good as it looks?

But yeah they are outside cats, when they dont spend 80% of their time asleep on the bed :/

Meat & meat by-products (min. 4% of each listed variety), vegetable protein extract, fish & fish by-products, minerals, sugar.

Ingredient listing laws means that 'Meat & meat by-products' could be 40%, and 'vegetable protein extract' 39%. The fact that they don't declare actuals is enough to put me off.

Compared to Butchers Classic:

Meat and Animal Derivatives (Beef min. 4%), Minerals.

No vegetables, no cereals, no sugars.

The whole 'As good as it looks' marketing annoys me too, Sheba and other brands do it too, try and make the food look appealing to us humans by using stupid haute cuisine style imagery.

Interesting. Seems the James Wellbeloved pouches aren't that great either.

Turkey meats, pea protein, tomato pomace, cassava, potato flakes, sunflower oil, linseed oil, calcium carbonate, potassium chloride, chicory extract, xylose, cranberry extract, yucca extract.

Minimum levels: turkey (35%), tomato pomace (1%), cranberry extract (130mg/kg), yucca extract (50mg/kg)

Good to know that as soon as it goes to tomato everything drops to <1%, but no idea how much pea protein there is.

The Purely ones we bought are a bit better though...

Chicken with Beef: Chicken (min.45%), Beef (min.4%), Sunflower Oil, Minerals & Tapioca
Chicken with Liver: Chicken (min.45%), Liver (min.4%), Sunflower Oil, Minerals & Tapioca
Chicken in Jelly: Chicken (min, 49%), Sunflower Oil, Minerals & Tapioca

Additives (For All Recipes),Nutritional Additives; Vitamin A: 10000µ/kg, Vitamin D3: 1900µ/kg, Iron (Sulphate): 7.2mg/kg, Iodine (as Iodide): 11.5mg/kg, Copper (as Sulphate): 2.9mg/kg, Manganese (as Sulphate): 7.2 mg/kg, Zinc (as Sulphate): 286.4mg/kg.

Applaws dry (80% meat) and Natural Instinct wet is what mine of on.
Sure cats will eat the **** called go-cat etc that can be found anywhere, but its about as good for them as a McDonalds.

surely you mean the LACK of meat/fish in that product, its all marketing spin - sounds stupid but you really need to check the labels.

A simple rule with wet food - does it look anything like real meat? If not (ie cubed garbaged) then its trash and your wasting your money.

Not reconstituted, cubed, faux meat.

It's made to look that way, just like Soya mince is.

I feed mine Animonda Carny - proper meat and you can tell it is:

Beef: 68% beef (meat, heart, liver, lung, kidney, udder), 31% broth, calcium carbonate.

Multi Meat Cocktail: 40% beef (meat, lung, kidney, heart, udder), 31% stock, 21% chicken (liver, meat), 7% venison, calcium carbonate.

Beef & Chicken: 52% beef (meat, lung, heart, kidney, udder), 31% stock, 16% chicken (liver, meat), calcium carbonate.

No sugar or carbs, which are bad for cats.

I must be totally wrong then, I obviously cant tell the difference between faux meat/fish and the real stuff.

But I wonder if any of the people who are slating my choice in cat food have actually bought, poked and looked at it, or is it just based on assumptions?
