hi all
i'm hoping you can help me figure out the following:
i currently have a four yr old pc for gaming
Quad Q6600, 4GB ram, one GTX275 (1792mb edition)
i game on three screens with the triplehead2go, all racing games

i realise my system is getting older so i was thinking of putting a second GTX275 in it for sli. Two things come to mind now:
- i will have to get a new mobo for a Q6600 which has SLI. Does that even exist anymore?
- i can find another GTX275 without problems, but i read someone bottlenecked their system also with a Q6600 processor, because he installed two GTX460's in SLI.

So, i hope you can tell me if this is doable and if i won't bottleneck my own system as well

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated!

if your current board dosnt support sli you will need to get a new ( second hand ) skt 775 board. Something along the lines of the 780i chipset if i recall.

I had gtx 275 sli a couple of years back and it was very capable. If you get a new motherboard chances are you could possibly clock your q6600 to at least 3.4ghz that would help performance.

I personally didnt have a q6600 I had the q9550 but the q6600 always was a very good chip.

780i is the only choice, though theyre not great boards on which to clock a q6600. 790i is a no go as it is a ddr3 board. Had 275 gtx sli as well, good setup though mine were ran in an X58 i7 920 rig.

If I'm right in thinking one of your gtx 275 was one of mine setter:)
If he could find a dirt cheap 790i the price of ddr3 is cheap now for 4 or 8 gb.
I had the 790i and it clocked my q9550 to 4ghz, totally agree tho that the 780i and the q6600 was not the best combo for clocking but it could be achieved with a lot of perseverance.
There is of course the 680i too.

It was indeed mate, an xfx, only got shot of them to go sli gtx 470. Board wise, avoid a 680i like the plague. 780i can manage a bit of an oc from a 65nm quad. 680i was an abomination with them, my q6600 wouldnt go above 3.0ghz for love nor money, and it was a supposed quad friendly evga rev a1. Same chip done 3.8ghz on air in a p45 chipset board. 680i didnt support 45nm quads such as the 9550 either.

thanks for all the replies so far, i'm learning by the minute :)
i have an Antec truepower 1000W psu, i think i'm ok for two graphic cards

i've searched for a 790i mobo but can't find one at an ok price.
however, in this review in Dutch (http://be.hardware.info/reviews/1316/6/nvidia-nforce-790i-sli-ultra-moederborden-test-conclusie) the make the reference to the Asus Striker II Extreme being equal if not slightly better than the nForce 790i mobo.
And i have found this Asus board second hand nearby.

If i get it, would i NEED to oc my Q6600 for it not to bottleneck two GTX275's or would it suffice as is?
