Small/med, rapid, pretty, toys, under £7k?

It's got an M in the model title (without "sport" after it), the op seems to want a car that costs 1.6 focus money to run and more importantly maintain. Things will not end well.
 
I didn't see the bit about small budget for maintenance. What annual mileage and how long you keeping the car for op :D
 
I said I didnt have "particularly deep pockets for maintenance" and now people are thinking I cant afford to run a 1.6 focus, this forum astounds me... it used to be quite a helpful place but now it seems full of pedants and jokers, and not even funny jokers!

My annual mileage is next to nothing, hence I don't need high MPG and would be keeping the car for potentially a long time (5 years +)
 
You did keep changing your requirements, which made no sense.

If i didn't have a family and fancied something different with a 7k budget, it would be a flip between a 350z or a S2000, possibly the Z4 aswell now everyone is saying they are easy to maintain.

Nobody has said you can't run a 1.6 Focus and anyone who has should simply be ignored. The point being made is that the costs associated with some of these cars - particually the much older very high performance ones you keep finding - are such that its unlikely to be a happy ownership period for anyone who even thinks about running costs let alone takes time to mention he 'doesnt have particularly deep pockets' on an internet forum. This doesn't confine you to a 1.6 Focus - infact there are numerous quick, fun cars which don't have disproportionately high running costs. the 3.0 Z4 is such a car.

Many of whom have spent a considerable amount of time in this thread giving you the advice you claim to have wanted!

If you want a 'Tell me how awesome I am for buying a diesel 3 series' thread then post one, don't post a spec me thread and then start getting funny with people because the advice given doesn't meet with what your initial plan.

Given the fact you've dismissed a 350z because it's 'too much to tax' when the ones in your budget are £275 a year to tax, anything cheaper would be a 1.6 Focus.
 
Z3m, 350z, s2000 then z4 would be my order of choice. Much better than an e46 dagadaga.

It's up to you decide what you like, can afford and then test drive them.

Na I have considered 350Z but my brother tells me the facelift one is much nicer but has uber tax so that put me off it to start with.

On the plus side I have just noticed someone selling a BMW Z4 3.0L 6 speed in my works carpark...

If its before 06 and less bhp its £275

If its after 07 with the more powerful engine then its £475

its a considerable extra outlay every year which will never go away, im convinced I can get something that was built before 06 and satisfies my needs

to be honest I havent checked out the less powerful cheaper to tax version as my brother tells me the newer one is "the one to have"

Edit: but I will!
