Hey.

My friend is looking to have a new computer build which needs a decent all round processor. Due to his needs, I initally thought Intel then I remembered the 8350.

He uses his computer for almost everything and spends many hours on it. He uses the computer to run many virtual computers, photoshopping, dreamweaver and play some games. The games he play are things like WoW, Battlefield series and just about every Valve game.

I thought that since he done a few demanding tasks - like the virtual computers - that the multi threaded power of the 8350 would be ideal, since it's still capable of gaming as well. Am I right in assuming this?

Also, whats the difference between a 8350 and a 8320 apart from clock speed? Could he save money and overclock the 8320 past 4GHz?

The eight core FX piledriver is a very good processor and I have had the 8350 since release day.

The 8320 is probably as capable as the 8350 and given a good motherboard will overclock well above 4GHz.

My point being go for the 8320 but do not skimp on the motherboard. A 990x or better. I run a 24/7 OC of 4.7Ghz on an M5A99x and it will bench at 5Ghz.

Go for it, Asus sabertooth are very good motherboards to go with, but if you want the best of the best it'll be asus crosshair v formula Z

mine is:
CPU: AMD Piledriver 8350 @ 4.8ghz GPU: Gigabyte HD 7870 OC
Motherboard:Crosshair V formula Z RAM: Corsair Vengeance Red 16GB
CPU cooler: Kraken x60 push and pull with Akasa Vipers
Case: NZXT Phantom 820 Black with a green LED theme
It's a total beast.

The AMd 8350 is a very good processor, As your friends needs are simular to mine, I use it as my main pc and use it for hours on end every day and use many demanding applications, play games and the likes. I am very happy with it, great value for money.

The motherboard I choose is Asus Sabertooth R2.0 99FX, very easy to use and overclock with, If you do choose to get one, try out everything on it and make sure everything works as some have been reported to be faulty, but I cant report anything bad from mine.

overall its a very good value mobo and processor combo, IMO better value than a Intel equivlent.

+1 on that, the stock cooler handled 4.4 clock with light use ok but it would be advisable to upgrade to a more suitable cooler for reliability and peace of mind. I switched back to stock clock until i buy a decent cooler for it.
 
Thanks for the posts:) He grabbed the 8320 and the sabertooth motherboard with plans to overclock.

Yeah it has a pretty decent cooler with it, the Coolermaster 212 Evo. It should be ok for it, hopefully :D
