Bioshock 3 - Infinite

Loving this game but getting confused. Got to the part early on where the on-screen hint tells you that you don’t have to fight in every situation, ok fair enough I thought, as I lower my weapons, but the cops just burst in and start shooting me for no reason (apart from all those people I killed earlier of course) Is it possible to do this part stealthily or non-violently? I don’t mind shooting but the on-screen hint seems to be a bit misleading or am I missing something? I'm playing on Hard and no matter how I try it, the cops always burst in and start shooting.

I too was wondering this. Was it this bit:

You enter a house and two scared people are in there with some people sleeping on some beds in one room. As far as i can see it, you can either rush out of the house and shoot all the enemies, or make a noise/be spotted through the window and they will rush the house. Don't see what else you could possibly do.

SLI 670s absolutely rip through this game.

1080p everything on as high as it goes + SLI 16xQ + SLI 16x supersample and I'm getting 120 near enough, with a few dips. Stunning game, needed something to get my teeth into after FC3! Just got into the action.

threw the ball off the commentator, not the couple... wise move?

It’s an excellent game, backed up with some glorious art direction, very stylised with a subtle yet effective cell shading effect, you can see the love they lavished upon the title. Signs are readable, the graphics work, although it’s a bit weird you walk through water, yet no ripples, its like you’re floating around.

So beautiful looking game for it’s not without its flaws. For such a cinematic story driven game, not being able to see your character apart from his hands means you never really connect with him, but you have to see the developers wanted ‘you’ to be the person seeing the events through his eyes, clearly from the sky hooking that goes on, it’s a rollercoaster ride, and once you realise this, as in you are the character then the game becomes more believable. So this one flaw is one of connecting, but soon as you start flying around, you are so drawn into the game, it is impressive and this flaw becomes irrelevant.

Another flaw, it’s the weapons. I don’t know what it is, but you seem to end up playing the entire game with only the choice of sniper or machine gun. For me, it is anyhow, also the vigars – it was like.. First vigar, wow got powers now. It was much better done in Bioshock when you got your first power but its still cool, the vigars are its saving grace. They work wonderfully well on combat.

The combat is certainly bioshock 1, its wonderfully enjoyable but also equally as frustrating at times….

Overall, it’s a solid game, and I’m enjoying it. The story is complex but not too complex, you need to pay attention, its easy to find where you are meant to go, its not cluttered, the HUB is perfectly fine, overall it’s a solid 9 game, and can’t wait to get home and play some more..

You can turn off the radio and wait and they will move on without entering.

So you mean all the soldiers outside will be gone? They never came in regardless of whether i turned the radio off or not.

I could be wrong about the radio then, just the NPC's said about being quiet, so I turned off the radio and waited until the police outside said something like "Looks like no ones home, lets go check the next place". There were still police to fight when I left the house (not outside the door though, they were further out), no one rushed the building.

I'm not liking the 2 weapon slots at all. It could be they wanted you to use your powers more aggressively but 2 weapon slots feels so annoying restrictive.

I was annoyed by that as well, particularly when the cost of upgrading them is so prohibitively expensive that you're realisticly restricted to only upgrading a couple.

I had my carbine upgraded and had to go ages without finding any ammo for it at all.

You do see more than just your characters hands but not often. I have been using more than two guns :p

I often use the carbine, shotgun, machine gun, sniper and sometimes the hand cannon.

Really? I have had my main weapon (hand cannon) on me since I got it, then the carbine or machine gun as my backup since. All 3 maxed out now. Never had issues with ammo as 1 of those 3 guns is in every single fight, and the hand cannon mixed with lightning vigor and a headshot one hits 90% of enemies lol.

Then you add on the chain mix gear and just keep popping the enemies. Think my largest string was like 6 guys in a row. I felt like a god! haha.

I do think it was silly having soooooooooo many types of guns. 5 types would have been enough.

Undertow... Which one is that again?

I briefly had a phase of doning up on the gear perking my melee to the max, using the vigor that pulls enemies in (multiple if you upgrade it) then just wailing away haha. That's fun in a small group of enemies.

Like Sagat from SF, "get over here!"

This is why I like bioshock, multiple ways of tackling situations :)

Big group? Send out crows to some guys, lightning to the others, focus on the big dude.

I got a mate coming over tomorrow and he wants to have a go at this from the start but i dont think i can have multiple saves?

Any ideas? If i chapter select will i lose my progress

Thanks

Worth buying? Not been bothered with gaming the last few months =/
If you're just totally off gaming, it might not change your mind. But if you like finely-crafted first-person experiences, then it might restore your faith in games.

During the opening hour of this game I was just walking around in awe, marveling at the art, the attention to detail and perfect scripting. I get the same feeling with Infinite as I do with Valve single-player games. Within the first 10 minutes I could tell I was playing something special.

On the other hand, once it kicks off, the combat scenarios play like Bioshock, with powers and guns. So if you can't bear the thought of any more of that, then maybe it's not for you.
