hey, am having a problem on deciding which setup would be best, am looking to play the new bioshock and metro lastnight up full wack, maybe ready for bt4. i will have about £550 to spend.

option 1 is to keep my current system which is Intel dual Core i3 540 @ 3.07GHz overclocked to 3.8. with 8gb of ram at 1600 on a Gigabyte H55M-UD2H (Socket 1156), and then buy a 680 with new power supply with the money.

would the card be bottle necked my the setup?

option 2 would be to upgrade the motherboard and cpu and sli the gfx card i have now which is a N570GTX Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC.

the problem is that they have stopped doing that card and its hard to find. would i be able to use any 570 to sli and make sure the settings for both cards are set to the max that the lowest card will allow?

any help would be much appreciated.

you can use any 570 to SLI, however at 1.25GB of VRAM it will be limited - the extra CPU grunt won't neccessarily translate in to being able to run better settings because you'll run out of VRAM in doing so

your CPU being a dual core will be a limiting factor in pushing a 680

I personally, in your situation, would consider a GTX670 - a decent OC model like an FTW or Windforce 3 which will be within single digit FPS of 680 performance, and use the money saved here to buy a better CPU for your current motherboard, something like an i7 870 if you can pick one up cheap

Hi There,

If you are not adverse to going AMD, you can save a packet by getting a 7950 and swapping out that I3 for an I5.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Crysis 3 & Bioshock PC Games £239.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £199.99
Total : £451.38 (includes shipping : £9.50).

No bottlenecks there :)

he's got an 1156 motherboard G, that IB won't do him much good on it's own :)

OP could still try grabbing a 2nd hand i5 750/760 for £65 ish and then just throw a 7950/GTX670 in with it...

If he's not upgrading his CPU, he should still be able to overclock that i3 540 further...4.25GHz should be easily doable, and 4.5GHz is reachable if he's lucky, provided if he got good enough cooling and a good chip.

so you would suggest going for a GTX 670 Windforce 3X and see how it runs on the i3 and the if need be go for a I5 760 too?

would this setup be able to play batman arkham city with dx11 and physx? how would it compare to what the ps4 will be able to do?
