Anyone scared of dying without leaving your mark in human history?

I think he was trying to be edgy but failed, murderous rampage is a good call for second place though.

Not trying to be edgy like one of these new age emo types. It's a genuine belief, to be honest us as a species are horrible and I honestly believe what I say. Going on a murderous rampage is kind of against why I believe in my statement.

Nope, I couldn't care less whether I am remembered. I find it really strange how many people want to be remembered after their death for something. If I live a happy life then mission accomplished. Usually just makes me think people who worry about that have an ego problem.

Something I've always worried about is living my life and dying without doing anything meaningful that benefits society in the long term.

Maybe I'm just crazy..

Sorry to be the one to break it to you, but the chances are that you will do nothing that benefits society in the short term, let alone the long term, most of us won't.

I would concentrate on just living your life as well as you can and not worry about "making your mark" so to speak.....it isn't worth it.

Bad science fiction. Well some people actually like it. I'd link to my amazon Author page but the OCUK mods get mad (no busimess links!) I was number nine in the top 100 best sellers for Sci Fi once so not too bad.

So instead have a look at:

Good on you mate :)

Have you sold many? I have loads to read at the mo but I'll pick it up at some point.

My aim is to get something published and I'm working on it. I'm just blinking slow and always find an excuse to put it off

Nope - a long time ago I realised that eventually pretty much everything will be forgotten if not sooner then later. Once I'm gone it won't affect me at all whether my name lived on or was entirely forgotten so its a waste of time worrying about it.

No. I hate people who will just do it for the sake of being remembered rather than actually doing anything of merit. This usually includes so called celebrities/stars who are famous for nothing. I hate to think how many people's work that has benefited our existence have been forgotten or wrongfully remembered.

"Two little lines I heard one day,
Traveling along life’s busy way;
Bringing conviction to my heart,
And from my mind would not depart;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, yes only one,
Soon will its fleeting hours be done;
Then, in ‘that day’ my Lord to meet,
And stand before His Judgement seat;
Only one life,’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, the still small voice,
Gently pleads for a better choice
Bidding me selfish aims to leave,
And to God’s holy will to cleave;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, a few brief years,
Each with its burdens, hopes, and fears;
Each with its clays I must fulfill,
living for self or in His will;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

When this bright world would tempt me sore,
When Satan would a victory score;
When self would seek to have its way,
Then help me Lord with joy to say;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Give me Father, a purpose deep,
In joy or sorrow Thy word to keep;
Faithful and true what e’er the strife,
Pleasing Thee in my daily life;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Oh let my love with fervor burn,
And from the world now let me turn;
Living for Thee, and Thee alone,
Bringing Thee pleasure on Thy throne;
Only one life, “twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, yes only one,
Now let me say,”Thy will be done”;
And when at last I’ll hear the call,
I know I’ll say “twas worth it all”;
Only one life,’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last. ”

Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.
And when I am dying, how happy I’ll be,
If the lamp of my life has been burned out for Thee.”

Paperback has only been 'live' on Amazon for a day or so but I have sold some. Sold quite a few Kindle versions of my books and stories and less so on the Apple iBookStore.

I'm not doing this to give up my day-job (probably a good thing I'd be eating bread and water right now) but as an outlet of my creative side that doesn't get used during the 8 hours I'm at work.

It's nice to know my work will outlive me though, but that's not too important. Seeing your name on a paperback sold on the worlds biggest bookstore does have quite a nice feel to it though.

It would be nice to have my name in the history books for doing something big and worthwhile for our species. For example, I would definitely consider the one way trip to Mars.

Don't worry OP. When you die all your nutrients and minerals will be extracted and redistributed amongst those that follow you :)

life isnt about leaving a mark on society is it ? if you work you contribute, isnt that enough ?

for me life is about living, the end.

Just be selfish and have the best life you can have, whether that's by being completely self-indulgent, or by helping others it doesn't matter. Follow that philosophy and you have the best chance of denting the history books.

I'm mainly afraid of dying because I don't know what happens afterwards, same with not knowing what you manifested as before birth.

As soon as you die you'll wake up elsewhere. If we're just big bags of atoms then at some point in the infinite future your current configuration will reappear, although it could be the year eight hundred and two thousand, seven hundred and one.
