So I have the following UK consoles and associated accessories:
  • Nintendo Wii (White) - original bought in the UK;
  • Nintendo Wii (Black) - same as above only bought recently;
  • Xbox 360 Elite 120Gb (White) - original bought in UK, have HD DVD drive;
  • Xbox 360 Star Wars Limited Edition - bought just before Xmas; and
  • Sony Playstation 3 - 2nd generation, bought in the UK.

I am moving permanently from Peterborough (UK) to Washington DC (US) in June 2013.

So what can I take and how do I make them work, I understand there are three things to consider: region encoding of games/movies, format of TV (we are PAL they are NTSC) and the power adapters being wrong.

I was thinking I could just buy the correct official power adapter and they would all just work, or is tat naive?

What does the voltage say on the power brick? If it is 110-240V then all you need as a plug converter. If not, a new power brick would probably be the ticket.

Don't take any! Get out and enjoy the fantastic sights and sounds of America. Don't sit in and play on a console!

You've only really got the power to worry about so you might need to change the transformer if it can't operate at 110v 60Hz. With LED/LCD/Plamsa TV's PAL and NTSC don't matter too much anymore and the current consoles can probably output either over SCART. Still, probably best just to sell them anyway as there might be region lockouts.

I moved out there on an E2 back in 2004. At the time i had a PS2, XBOX and DC. Sold the PS2 and xbox, which i re-purchased in America (dunno why i bothered, since it was the end of the gen as it is now) and was already bored with that gen. And took my PS1 and DC with me.. Truth be told, I've not even bothered to even try and turn on the DC or PS1. I guess i'm just keeping them for souvenirs.

So in answer to your question. Sell 'em... Don't even bother replacing, the new PS4 and xbox will be out by the end of the yr anyways.

i think (not 100% sure) but for games the PS3/360 consoles are region free with the exception that some games are region locked via the game disc - i think DLC is region locked for every game

both are still locked for dvd/br movies.

You just need a 110v power pack with lead for the Xbox.

I got one for about $20 from GameStop. The consoles are the same in terms of power.

i dont know which will work out there and which wont, but if it was me, i would just take the special/limited edition ones for sentimentary value, normal edition ones can be brought again, also as people say, the new generation is jsut round the corner anyways, so you might want to consider jsut waiting and buying whichever new gen console you want/can afford in a few months

+1. Youre one lucky person moving to the US. If it was me, consoles would be the least of my concerns right now. Just sell them here cos they are all PAL consoles, I doubt the yanks will have any interest in buying PAL consoles. Then move out there and enjoy your new home, sod playing videogames. Then just wait for PS4/Xbox 720 or rebuy the current gen consoles 2nd hand dirt cheap.

You dont know how lucky you are moving there. Can I ask one thing, being serious, how old are you?
