Battlefield 4 Thread ~ Server details in opening post ~

Battlefield 4
Battlefield 4 DLC + Solar Radiation Pack
Battlefield 4 Premium
Battlefield 4 ALWAYS ON DRM

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh!

Ping, hitbox, latency it was a joke with Bf3.
same as with Bc2.
the trailer of BF4 looks great and is their best as far.

BFBC2 has far better hitreg than BF3 ever had, Bf3 can be just as bad as BF2. They knew that hitreg was an issue by putting in that useless network slider :)

Still though Battlefield 3 was perfectly fine before they released that first dlc, then it went down hill.

BC2 was broken as hell for a long, long time after release.
BF3 was also broken from alpha, months into release.

Last I checked they improved BC2 a lot and in BF3 I no longer die seconds into cover or think I should have killed someone. Experiences may vary.

I hear you on this.

Some nights BF 3 would be spot on, but then half the time it would be dreadful, the network slider does **** all and I cba fiddling with it every damn time I want to play a game.

As someone else said, it isn't a problem with people's connections, it is a problem with the game otherwise it would be the same in every other online game. If there wasn't a problem then DICE wouldn't have put that stupid network slider there in the first place.

One reason I refuse to play Bf3.
netcode, skill level absent etc...

there is some slimmer of hope for Bf4 though,
Bach said " there are things under the hood we're doing that will improve the experience."
they took note BF3 didnt have the battlefield experience....
hopefully it will improve the tech netcode, hitbox and such.

Not holding my breath yet though.

The expression is a "a glimmer of hope". FYI :)

BC2 was server side hitreg. In long tradition of DICE games with server side hitreg 1/5 shots was a blank, get a dodgy server and even more would be.

They've never been able to make proper netcode for their games and finally admitted defeat over it in BF3 by moving it client side hitreg. Which actually means your hitreg is perfect. It's impossible for your hitreg to be off as only your aim can now effect what you do/don't hit.

What BF3 introduces with client side hit reg though is that even with 10-20ms pings everything you see on screen is actually 1-2 seconds behind because they're trying to sync everyone together the best they can, which includes the physics/animation but as a side effect you have the pleasure of running around a corner and 2 seconds later getting shot by people who haven't seen you go out LOS yet.

Even worse with BF3 which makes me not want to play it for more than 10 seconds is actually nothing you see is in sync. In counter strike, if someone is reloading, they're animation is showing them reload and you can see that... in BF3 because of that stupid client side nonsense you see people mid reload animation that can shoot you because they actually finished reloading a couple of seconds ago their end. Even worse than that again, you don't even actually see people shooting at you often until they've killed you because even the shooting/muzzle flashes are out of sync. This leads to that feeling of having been insta-gibbed by someone without warning, or that you're sure you fired first long before they did but still they got the kill... yet if you were to watch it from their POV they sprayed a whole clip at you... the game just neglects to show you any of that as it's happening, making it all just a completely pointless mess to play, which even if you aren't able to nail why, you still get the sense of.

So it ultimately comes down to the lesser of two evils with DICE as they've shown time and time again they're completely incapable of proper server side netcode, giving rubber bullet syndrome. Then clientside fixes that 1 problem perfectly but introduces just a vast array of others... either way, you're left with a very substandard, wishy washy feel to a AAA title which DICE one of these days is going to have to take seriously.

If DICE actually "took note" or "learned from the last release" only a fraction of the amount of times they spout this rubbish then future releases would be utterly faultless.

I'm not saying that they should release 100% perfect games but for god sake stop taking people for idiots, everybody and his dog know that every DICE bug ever discovered will be included in the new release and then patched out slowly over the next 12 months. Its been like that since day 1.

hahaha u belong on the BL forums..

my game how ive got it setup with fxaa injector 1080p with everything on low except Mesh.. still looks better then everything on the standard ultra settings with HBAO 4x MSAA etc

if u had the slightest clue about BF3 u would understand why people play with everything turned off and it has nothing to do with gaining advantage in seeing things first but ill let u figure that one out urself!

Do you have a link to your fxaa config? I used to use an fxaa config you posted on these forums a while back but when Aftermath was released it made the maps look way too orange. So if you don't mind can I have your current config ?:)

I had some really good times on BFBC2, when it was fixed it was/is a tight shooter. Getting nailed when you know you got behind cover drives me mental and really ruins BF3 for me, as does being killed by someone who is reloading, vaulting or facing the other way :p

No way in hell I will be paying ~£50 for more of the same, and then be pushed further DLC totalling another £50 odd unless BF4 is truly exceptional. Which we all know the answer to.

It will sell by the bucket though

just make the server side reg again it probably wouldnt be to bad.

had to laugh other day a dice dev said that client side is better :D that is why bf is screwed even devs think clientside is better when it isnt.

Client side is better as it makes it more a level playing field! Server side hit reg u wont find players playing on servers out of there own country because of the delay!

I still prefer server side tho but ill only play on uk server! Maybe french too!

Best ever netcode was quake 3

quake 3 is pure awesomeness but server side is still better go play cod 4 for a round then go play bf3. or any decent quake 3 engine game. bf3 actually had server side and was awesome at start but they swopped it .

Dice also made moh 2010 (along with danger close), now im unsure as to wether it's server or client side. But hit registration in it was nigh on perfect. Bfbc2 took a long time to be sorted, but on the most recent times ive played it, reg was very good. I was making some great long range kills with assault weapons with firing in short bursts. In the bf3 alpha, this was the case too. But in the current version of the game, this just doesnt happen. Im by no means a great player, my accuracy in bf3 is 15%. But if i drop out of a bf3 round and go onto bc2, i can consistently hit targets much better and people go down. It's not a case of being better at one than the other, cause at the end of the day. Both are fps games on the same basic engine and the same basic formula.

Okay BF3 hit reg isn't faultless no arguement there, but it isn't as bad as people seem to be making out. I do get the occasional 'shot around the corner syndrome' but its not every death. I don't understand how people have found it to be a constant problem.

Now I do get frustrated when you join a game on a night and for whatever reason it just doesn't feel right. You are just a fraction of a second behind everyone else (not 1-2 seconds, that would stand out a mile !) and it does become a chore. Go on the next night and all's well again for days if not weeks/months.

BF4. Well first its overpriced. Yes things go up but when dlc will be on top that makes for an eye watering amount. Now if I take that over a year or two of play its still good value for money (lets say its cheaper per hour than watching films or many other forms of entertainment like woman)..... but I'm poor at the moment so right now its extracting the urine some what .

Only a mug would buy direct from Origin at that price. I will wait for a cd key site or some sale on a foreign Origin service. I got Premium through Origin India and paid just over £20.

Sad things is its the simple things that people want back. Squad voip, a working server browser. I mean out of all the bf games only one has had decent server browser and that was 2142. All other games have been poor at this. I remember that in bf2 it was far easier to look for and join servers from websites than in game. Which is kinda ironic considering the stick dice/ea got for battlelog.
