Finally decided to get my finger out a watercool my graphics card.:D

I'm waiting for the Corsair 900D to come out, so I'm going to run the GPU rad externally.

Apart from tubing/fittings and possibly fan extension wiring, is the rest of this suitable?

  • XSPC AX360 Triple Fan Radiator (Silver) XSPC AX360 Triple Fan Radiator
  • XSPC X2O 750 Dual Bayres/Pump (Black) V4 XSPC X2O 750 Dual Bayres/Pump (Black) V4
  • Akasa FC. SIX Channel Fan Controller - Brushed aluminium - AK-FC-08BK
  • XSPC AX Radiator Desk Stand (Black) XSPC AX Radiator Desk Stand (Black)

I'm mounting it externally with my existing case as it simply won't fit inside lol. The 900 isn't out for a few months apparently! So when I get it everything will be mounted internally.

You haven't listed what fans you're going for but I assume you've picked out some to add to that list?

Also, the pump res combo will serve you fine but from my research you might want to maybe consider a D5 to give you the room to expand in case you ever want to put your CPU under water too (with the 900D you will have more room than you could ever need for extra rads).

Bump! Really need somebody to hold my hand and tell me what to buy lol

Want us to hold your hand and build it for you to?
Put me on speed dial in case you have issues :D

In all seriousness, spec your own loop. Some people in here give **** advice. Others give advice based on personal experience that is not typical of the experience of others (I'm guilty there).

This is what I would say:

-D5 vario
-bay or tube res (Pump NOT in the bays), preferably tube res as a bay res will not match the 900d exterior and look **** imo.
-shoggy sandwich or similar to rest the pump on for now
-No fan controller if possible (same reason as above)
-tubing size of your choice
-fitting type and brand of your choice
-coolant of your choice

D5 will be OTT for a GTX 690 but will be future proof once you get the GPU under water you will likely want to do the same with the CPU so can't see much trouble there.

My 750 V4 is much louder than my GTX 680 (reference) try and avoid bay pump/res combos due to vibrations due to not being able to isolate them from the case.

GT 1450 or 1850 fans will do a great job and aren't too loud at speed but also don't have an "annoying" sound to them. They are however expensive.

As above, my experience is limited and your mileage may vary.

Sorry, forgot about fans! I'll probably use corsair fans as that's what's in the rest of my case?

It's just as I'm an utter noob when it comes to water cooling DIY lol. I've an h100 to do the CPU and to be honest I wish I'd just built a loop to start with. I want to do the GPU now as its getting pretty hot, then when I get a new case I can think about adding another rad to do the CPU as well.

Cheers :) it'll look a bit mad max til I get a bigger case lol, thanks for the tips!

So to sum up, I really want a d5 pump as that'll keep the system future proof and the common opinion is bay res/pump combos aren't great.

That's the kind of info I'm looking!

I appreciate you all taking the time to help me out :)

Supposed to be better than the EX model. I'd say it ought to be up to the task of doing just the gpu.
