Hi, i'm hoping someone could shed some light on the situation as the link from their website needs a login :mad:

I'm travelling home tomorrow and unfortunately have to pass through the affected line, so have to use the bus service to Goole of all places....
How does this work? Will the bus be crammed full? how much longer does it take? Will there be fold out tables?

The last coach I was on was to and from school 5 years ago :P

My train will (should) arrive at Doncaster at around 15:00 if that makes a difference!

To answer your questions,

The coaches are normally hired out from local coach companies rather than the big ones like national express, so they're likely to be exactly like the ones you went on school trips on.

How does this work? The buses normally leave from outside the station, or in some cases, the nearest bus station in the town. The drivers stand outside the bus, will help you get on the right bus and you'll just have to show them your ticket and get on.

Fold out tables? Not likely.

Crammed full? Well the seating will be full, but in many cases it's actually more comfortable than a train as there's no standing allowed, so more room to breath at least, unless you end up next to a heffer.

How much longer does it take? Depends entirely on the journey, but expect it to be at least 2x longer. Whenever my journey between swindon and bath was replaced by a bus service, it would take an hour and ten minutes (train takes just half an hour). So factor that into any travel plans.

Why don't you call them?

I could, but I'm just wondering what the bus is like really, I'd really like to get some work done on it but if its a double decker, that won't be possible :(

Thankyou for that!
Sort of good news on the bus front as I was half expecting them to send service buses :p

Haha, well unless your local train company is cheap or a bit special, that's not the case most of the time :p

Worst case scenario, in really extreme cases, they sometimes book taxis for customers. That must cost them a fortune!

I've had that before, Birmingham to Oxford, took ages! The driver wouldn't tell us how much he was charging for it :D
