AMD - Whats next ??

Whatever it is they really need to up the IPC on their CPU's. It's shockingly bad, Piledriver has worse IPC than the Phenom 2's.

Pure speculation from me but I'd imagine there will be a one more AM3+ refresh after Piledriver. Then both AM3+ and FM2 will be retired in favour of a new single socket for both APUs and non APU CPUS (likely APU dies with faulty/disabled GPU portion, as all will start life as APUs)

Just a thought, if DDR 4 is likely to hit next year & assuming AMD want to make use of it, won't it require a new chipset & socket?

New boards definitely, the memory controller has been on AMD CPUs for a few generations now. A DDR4 motherboard is hugely unlikely to work with a CPU with a DD3 controller

Weren't there rumours that the next release will be a piledriver refresh, with steamroller for 2014? So should be likely that this year's CPU will work with AM3+.

Gibbo, explain yourself further or I shall unleash a highly trained squadron of flying monkeys to lay waste to your Easter eggs... you know, they'll poop on them & stuff, it won't be pleasant!

amd need to sort out the TDP of there chips and get some more mitx boards out far sooner tbh, intel is uncontested in mitx atm and its a form thats increasingly popular
but regardlesss AMD may gain an advantage in upgradability if intel really are going pure BGA from broadwell
