So I'm on the M5 going to work this morning, when I come across in the roadworks 2 cars sat in lane 2 of 3, following cars parting either side of these 2. Turns out a car had broken down in lane 2 (never quite understand how you end up stopping in a live lane 2 with not enough warning to at least coast into lane 1 or the hard shoulder), the car behind had stopped safely, but the next 2 cars had run into the back of the guy who'd stopped safely.
Guy at the back's first comment to me was "What a stupid place to stop, never expected a car to stop on the motorway". The fact that he was obviously too close to the car in front never crossed his mind... And he seemed more concerned about his sandwiches splatting all over the windscreen!
Car 3, that drove into the stationary car, had a cat on the parcel shelf. The look on the cat's face was priceless, like he'd seen the gates of Hell. Quite how he'd not ended up on the inside of the windscreen or wrapped around the driver is anyone's guess!
And there was a distinct lack of interest in actually pushing either of the cars off the motorway when I suggested that it being rush hour, it might be safer if we all hang about on the hard shoulder rather than in the carriageway.
Happy days! God, I love the M5........
