Bioshock 3 - Infinite

^^ Yeah, I'm not clicking on that yet;)

Just on the bit where you control Songbird....brilliant sequence! I love sky-lining around occasionally dropping in to charge people

Report back when you've collected your jaw from the ground. :D

Edit - the story and climax are the best in any game Ive played. The gameplay under a microscope isn't really up to much -- overall, imo, the game is more than the sum of its parts.

This part cannot be correct though:

Booker is Comstock. Not his son or anything like Jack is to Andrew.

Andrew Ryan could have been Comstock's son in an alternate timeline where they didn't use tears meaning he was able to have kids. The tears would have shown that since opening tears was a choice and not a fixed point.

Saying that, we could be here for days making up how's and why's but it'll never be truly explained which is the beauty of it :D

If you haven't finished the game yet then read this after finishing:

With tears plasmids could have basically been taken from rapture. Just like most of the technology and music in the game was taking from other points in time, in particular 1980's.

So trying to explain them would have given the story away a bit!

My thoughts on the ending:

So if this really could be all connected with Rapture then all 2K have done is release Bioshock 1's prequel without ever pin pointing down if it really is linked (character similarities with the first one are all there). But also at the same time, almost released the same game with a different take on the story. It's genius :D

Please tell me someone else cacked themselves at this bit too...

Fink did take the vigors from Rapture through a tear.

Also Elizabeth says

"there's always a man, always a lighthouse, always a city"

Fully agree. The gameplay was okay, it could have worked within a few other genres easily. The story and world were outstanding. The voice acting and the world design lifted the whole thing, the story was genius.

14hrs in so nearing the end, fantastic game as I said from the start, likely to be GOTY IMO.

Only things letting it down is the replay value and 2 weapons at a time limit is a bit annoying.

Finished...

I wasn't too enamoured with the look of the game initially but it either got better or I didn't notice it any more as the story progressed - more than likely the latter.

More than anything I'm most surprised that a games company felt that we, Joe Public, would be ok with the concept.

I too would put it right up there as one of the all time best single player experiences I've ever had, right next to Half Life in fact.

Mind blown, a very, very impressive piece of work.

yes i was very surprised and glad to see a mainstream company bring the goods again after so many lackluster efforts of recent games.

9/10 and upto yet game of year.

My thoughts on spoilerific ending related STUFF

One thing to remember is that though the alternate timelines share the "Always a man, always a lighthouse, always a city" causality, they are not really directly comparable as the timelines can be so different depending on choices which go back decades.

The most compelling piece of evidence for a direct link between Bioshock 1 and Infinite or between Booker and someone in the Rapture timeline, if it is that and not a mistake by 2K, is the fact that Booker is able to use the Bathysphere in Rapture when we are told in Bioshock that only Andrew Ryan and his close relatives can use it, pointing towards Booker being either Ryan himself or a relative. This could either be a mistake OR they could be in Rapture before this rule was enforced. Alternatively it could just be Elizabeth weaving elaborate plot-fu.

However saying that Booker is Ryan/Relative is a bit inaccurate as Ryan isn't Booker, they are completely different men. Much like Booker is different to Comstock, they are the results of entirely different series' of events, though Booker/Comstock are much more closely linked (and also a special case imo).

In actuality I DO think that the relation IS between Booker and Jack. Let me explain.

The reason I think this is because the most reasonable link between timelines is that "A man" in each timeline is simply a role filled by an appropriate actor, the Booker/Comstock relation is special case as it involves people DIRECTLY meddling with the multiple timelines. This allows Booker to player the "A Man" role in two timelines simultaneously. Depending on the choices which are made in the past, in some timelines Booker will NEVER EXIST/HAVE EXISTED AT ALL.

tl:dr

The Booker/Comstock relation is special because it involves direct timeline tomfoolery by the Luteces who mix together two of Bookers timelines, i.e NOT NATURAL.

"A Man" is simply a role filled by an appropriate "Actor" in each Timeline, it is not always the same man, if ever.

The same goes for "A City", there just has to be one, who builds it or visits it via the Lighthouse is variable and depends on the Timeline.

In Bioshock 1, Jack is "A Man", Rapture is "A City". In Infinite, Booker plays the role of "A Man" in two timelines.

Personally I think this is the most "logical", or rather least outlandish explanation.

One interesting thing to consider, technically, the only character to "die" in Infinite is Elizabeth. Once the timeline is resolves, she will never get the opportunity to grow up into the woman we see in the game, Anna grows up with Booker (presumably) and Elizabeth never gets to exist.

Bioware- This is how you promote speculation!

:p

Fenris-

Pretty sure Booker can't be Andrew Ryan, as he has a pretty fleshed out back story already, and I don't think the timeline fits? He could be a relative though of course, not impossible. Personally, I don't think there is an actual link between them at all.

After the ending, I was a little confused about the character Slate at first, but I think I have it now

Looks lovely, but the game is very linear and quite boring tbh. Probably half way through and don't think i'll bother with the rest. Not my cup of tea

Bioshock Infinite performance

Hey guys, I know there is already a thread on Bioshock Infinite, but I'm literally too afraid to enter for more than three seconds in case of spoilers!

Which, I guess, brings me to my question. I really want to play more of this game, but my experience is being marred by my performance.

I'm on mostly high graphics settings, except for textures and world detail which are on ultra, and I usually get 57-60fps (I use Radeon Pro to limit the frame rate as I've heard in-game vsync is poor). However, it seems whenever I move about the city, my fps hits the dirt like a brick every now and then. I've heard this is something to do with bad memory allocation when it loads new items, but I'm not sure. An example of this is when walking out of the welcome center after being 'baptized', when I move closer to the religious couple sitting on the side of the pond, my fps drops to 30fps and stutters for a couple of seconds, then goes back to what it was before. This is incredibly annoying, and really breaks the immersion of the game, as it happens almost every 10 seconds (if sprinting through the opening city bit). I have tried putting all settings to low, but this does nothing.

My question is; should I be experiencing this with my setup? If not, it will reassure me that it will be fixed by Irrational Games at a later date.

My rig:

  • Asus P8Z77-V LX Socket 1155 VGA DVI HDMI 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
  • Intel Core i5 3570K OC to 4.4GHz Socket 1155 6MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor
  • Corsair Vengeance LP Performance Memory modules 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 2133MHz CL9 Blue
  • MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express
  • XFX Pro750W

Is anyone else getting FPS drops to 30 for no real reason ? My FPS is V-synced to 60 but for no reason it just drops to 30 and then goes back up again.

One thing to remember
It makes you wonder if the protagonist of Bioshock and Andrew Ryan were the same person. I don't think they were, the moral of the game was that 'nature' finds a way to have a man, a city and a lighthouse. Those events were forced by the twins in Infinite, that doesn't mean that the same laws apply in Rapture.

I'd say it really shouldn't be doing that, I have an i5 3570k @ 4.4, gigabyte ga-z77-3dh, 8gb (2x4gb) kingston 1600, sapphire hd7850 2gb oc edition and haven't had any stuttering at all, I'm not very far into it yet but I've came across some action and had no problems.
