[techradar] AMD on the PS4: We gave it the hardware Nvidia couldn't

Yay - so it will be unreliable and noisy as a launch Xbox 360.

(Thought the bloke in the pic was George Galloway for a minute.)

Hardly baiting, its the title of the article, AMD clearly miffed about what nvidia said a few weeks back. Seems to be lots of name calling at the moment between the two.

I see this as nothing but a baiting thread from an AMD fanboy.

And yet the other thread, you act like it isn't baiting. Shame on you.

The difference here is that this is what's actually said in the article, if the article offends you, take it up with those who published it instead of crying again.

My point is being an Nvidia owner, I look at those threads and read it. If I deem it as baiting, I wouldn't bother to reply but a select few are getting wound up over nothing. It isn't damning AMD at all and I don't see why all the pitch forks are out and even one person screaming for a suspension.

Some people need to man up.

This is called hypocrisy.

It's very clear that this is the case. With how nVidia are basically saying "The consoles are crap and we weren't even interested anyway". Their butthurt is quite clear really otherwise they wouldn't be talking so much smack.

I find this part especially amusing;

Sony, he said, approached AMD based on the company's track record with the Xbox 360, Wii and other consoles, effectively skipping over Nvidia, which provided the chips for the PS3.

As this was the first thing I thought when I saw nVidia's claims that they turned Sony down. I genuinely don't think nVidia even got a proper look in over this.

I have no opinion on this topic yet but when it comes to statements AMD will say whatever they think their customers want to hear or what they want their customers thinking regardless of whether they can or even intend to deliver on it. Only difference here with nVidia is they tend to deliver a bit more often on their soundbites, both are just as guilty of screwing their customers over.

Don't believe me? after all that talk of open standards and using Open CL for stuff like physics they end up using DirectCompute for TressFX... after all that talk about physics not needing a GPU and the CPU is more than good enough for any physics effect we will see ingame (massive dig at PhysX)... remind me what TressFX is processed on... and anyone with half a brain can see how badly that would run purely on the CPU. And thats just the tip of the iceberg.

EDIT: The point of my post being, AMD's customers want to hear that nVidia were passed over due to their track record with the Xbox 360, Wii and other consoles so thats what they are saying regardless of what the actual fact of the matter is.

nVidia make great rock solid cards and they have my loyality to a point, but the pricing is really starting to get to me. They really need to watch that as it'll be there undoing if they're not careful

To be honest their cards are no more "rock solid" than AMD's. If anything pricing is everything at the moment and the 7970 would surely get my vote over a 680. Either way, AMD supplying the CPU/GPU for the new consoles is a massive coup and Nvidia will be very disappointed by Sony and Microsoft's decision. I feel that Nvidia are perhaps blinded by their own self importance sometimes and feel they should sell more cards and supply components on reputation alone. AMD have really upped their game the last 3 years and this only makes it better for us the gamers. I have no loyalty to any massive corporation. Who ever has the best console/GPU for the best price will get my money.

Apparently so, as well as the rest of management. There's a reason most companies in the industry don't like working with nVidia.

They do seem to have developed this rep these days. It's like I was saying above they are so full of their own self importance. AMD have caught them napping over the last few years. Although they can be as up themselves as they want as long as they continue to release decent cards but sort their pricing out.

The way I see it is that AMD offer more bang for buck. Not sure how true that is nowadays but when I was looking for an upgrade to my 9800GT I chose an HD 5850 and it was far better value for the spec than anything Nvidia were offering at the time of purchase.

Of course Nvidia could not provide the goods. They only make second rate licensed ARM CPUs. The next gen is all about fusion and Fusion :p

Without fanboy crap, don't Nvidia have the TDP/Power advantage with their GPU's?

T3 is pretty meh, hate how it's thrown in premium devices.
T4, I'm not sure how that is right now?

Loyalty to the underdog for me when possible, AMD need support more than intel...
