ATi Card underclocking at 75oc?

Hi Everyone,

I have a 7970 with a Accelero Xtreme 7970 cooler. I've noticed only recently in games I will get short burts of poor performance ie 60fps down to 25, then back up to 60. I noticed that this is consistent with my GPU usage, ie my GPU usage will go from 99% to 65% and then back up to 99% again.

I ran Unigine to investigate further. It could be coincidence but when my card hits 75oc, it reduced load on the GPU and will repeat this pattern, as you can see here:

Now 75oc should be no problem for this card, so I'm curious as to why I'm experiencing this behavior.

Any ideas anyone?

No idea, I've not done any overclocking in a while..

Hmm. Maybe I need to reapply the heatsinks on the VR's
