A man who dialled 999 fearing a burglary at his petrol station is being sued by the policewoman who answered the call because she fell on the premises.

Her lawyers say she was hurt and argue that he failed to keep her safe while she was investigating the possible break-in.

So if a burglar was on the premises and, in his attempt to evade the law, he jumped out and attacked her, would she also be suing him for failing to keep her safe? She sounds like a bit of a div to me.

It's different in the sense that it's someone who's meant to be a public servant/protector of good... rather than some random person who's arguably less obligated to the public, or whatever.

She's doing it as a private action though, rather than in an official capacity. It's stupid, no doubt, but then a lot of the compensation culture is.

However she is being financially supported in this action by The Constables Central Committee which is part of the Police Federation.

Brits often make fun of the American litigation and compensation culture. IME it's much worse here in the UK. This is a prime example.

I realise that, but it does add a certain amount of weight to the criticisms being laid.

Hopefully this is not a common occurrence, as people will begin to think twice about calling the Police just in case they later get sued....stories such as this only add to the problems the Police have with Public Trust.
