Policewoman Sues Man Who Called 999

It's no different to anyone else phoning an ambulance chaser type company.

it is a bit different and its incredibly unprofessional of her tbh... the police are surely expected to be able to enter areas that aren't well lit, at night etc...

I wouldn't expect an owner of a petrol station to be obliged to keep the area well lit when its closed for business for the night. If it was open to the public, badly lit and someone fell over then fine... but a police officer responding to a possible burglary at night ought to perhpas exercise some common sense - presumably she does have access to a torch if working at night?

Is he expected to say to her - 'sorry, health and safety... can you wait just off the premises until I've gone inside the shop, unlocked and switched all the outdoor lighting on'

I realise that, but it does add a certain amount of weight to the criticisms being laid.

Hopefully this is not a common occurrence, as people will begin to think twice about calling the Police just in case they later get sued....stories such as this only add to the problems the Police have with Public Trust.

I agree it's a stupid action to bring and not something I could see any of my colleagues doing, and yes it does have the side effect of making victims of crime think twice, but I haven't noticed public trust being a problem. Usually, the only people I know who don't trust the Police usually have a list of reasons as long as their PNC record.

When you put it like that, I struggle to find a rebuttal.

There are plenty of people without criminal records that have little faith in the Police, particularly in the inner cities and among minorities. I am not saying it is all justified, but this kind of thing doesn't help improve that perception among those groups.

what gets into these peoples heads? God help her should she have to combat a real criminal instead of a business owner worried about his business. maybe she will sue the entire criminal world and drive it out of business.

I tripped over at work the other day while climbing over a bund wall. I don't feel like suing my employer because I can see it was my own fault. Silly wench

there are ******* curbs all over the country, they are common in petrol stations, common ***** sense should dictate if there is no ***** lighting then she should move carefully. what if she had walked into a petrol pump? the door? tripped over the petrol hose? Stupid bint should watch where she's going FFS

/end rant

Spill....

:p

On a fun personal injury note, I witnessed an accident at a gym yesterday. A man have left a treadmill running at high speed as some sort of complex super-set cardio non-sense. I was on the bike next to it. All of a sudden a woman in her elder years tries to get on the treadmill and didn't realise it was moving. BAM. Smacked on her face, it looked really painful. Guy doing his complexes saw this and carried on with his set. Anyway, I got off the bike to make sure she was OK, which thankfully she was... a bit grazed though. Then the gym lady came over and waved over to complex man, who then proceeded to have a right shout about how it wasn't his fault and it was obvious and she had been stupid.

I mean really, what a douchebag. Even if it was entirely her fault, at least stop your exercise to see if she's OK? Strange man.

I've noticed these types at my local gym too, rather strange people. They seem to be the same types who stand in front of mirrors whilst lifting weights, unashamed of their self-induced hard-ons. :p

What an arse.

"I think it's the compensation culture gone a little too far, this is one step too far. Something needs to be done.

"I feel we need a minister of the common sense in this country,"

I think fundamentally, people forget that sometimes accidents happen and it's nobody's fault. That's just a fact of life and we can't and shouldn't get to a point where we're so risk adverse that there are no longer any accidents.

There has to be someone else to blame for stupidity.

How is she still a copper... shes grossly overweight and unable to walk without falling over.

Fire her.

I don't trust the Police. My record is spotless and I highly suspect it always will be. That's not to say all police are bad but I'll pretty much give pause to anyone who thinks they have authority over me and I've seen enough bad eggs to last a life time.

Random opinions on topic.

She should be fired because she doesn't seem to understand that she's supposed to be protecting him.
Nobody should be able to sue because "I hurt my leg". You're gonna need some permanent or at least long term damage.
