Hi all,

I've never had to replace tyres before and wondered if anyone could help.

I need 2 new front tyres on my Ford Focus Mk1 2002. Can anyone advise of any particular make (and more specifically, models) that would be best?

I realise tyres are important and therefore want something decent, although at the same time I still don't want to break the bank! If it makes a difference or helps with choice, although it's only an old focus, I would like a tyre that has good performance and I would say I do about 10,000 miles a year.

Also does anyone know if E-Tyres.com are any good?

Any help much appreciated. :)

Cheers.

Good question, I need to replace the fronts on my wifes focus and was about to start looking online also. Be interesting to see what people recommend at the moment though.

Thankfully in the size we need most high end tyres still arent that expensive :)

I just put 4 goodyear efficient grip performance tyres at £71 a corner through Tyre Shopper. It's national tyres online shop i think so just fitted at my local national.

Spent ages looking around and around but finally read a reasonable review on these.

After my experience with Blackcircles I intend to just go with them again in the future.

You pay an all inclusive price, take your car to one of the very many fitters nationwide and they do the work. Easy peasy.

For my 1.6LX (tyres 185/65 R 14) I bought a set of Yokohama tyres at around £45-50 a corner fitted. For the driving that I do just pootling from A to B in all weather conditions, they've been absolutely fine.
Have used E-Tyres and Black-circles before, both OK. Delivered the tyres to my local fitter when stated.

Thanks for replies so far.

I have one further query...

I was intending on replacing my 2 front tyres only as my back 2 seem fine, however I just went to check my tyre specs and apparently 3 of my tyres (2 front and back right) are 195/60 R15 88H but the back left tyre is 195/60 R15 88V and a different model to the other 3.

Does it matter that the speed rating on that 1 back tyre is much higher??

Would it still be ok to just replace my front 2 with 195/60 R15 88H continentals/ goodyears or is it not safe to have the different model and spec back right tyre and I should therefore replace 3 or even worse all 4?? :(

You should check what the manufacturer recommends (many of the tyre sites will let you put in your reg then tell you what speed rating should be used). It probably does want an H rating - the V rated tyre won't be an issue, if anything it's rated to a higher speed than the rest.

Ok cool, that's what I was hoping.

I think I've decided on 2 of these, seem to be about the best EU rated and reviewed for the price range.

Hankook make good performance tyres, but (though i'm not saying these particular ones are poor as I've never used or even heard of tbh) I would at least consider the offerings from Goodyear, Michellin or Continental.

I imagine these are about on a par with Kumho KU/KH 31, which are ok but much better tyres are available for a few pounds more

Look for real world comparison tests rather than the lables which are next to useless sadly
