Mazda MX5 woes

No woes about the car, just my own stupidity.

Anyway, before Christmas I lost all my keys, including the one and only fob for my car, which has central locking, immobiliser and and alarm (Meta system).

Fast forward to today, I found my spare key! I never use the car, so have had no need to find the key and was just going to get the locks replaced when I had the spare cash.

Now, I think the battery is 100% dead, no flashing light on the alarm any more, will this effect the unlocking of the car?

As I need to unlock it with my spare key, silence the alarm (good old towel) then get to the alarm unit to tell a company the code so they can reprogram me a new set of fobs.

BUT! The key will go in either door, and nothing, it's an old car so the key doesn't feel very flush, but none the less, no movement at all! I don't want to force the key much.

Any ideas? I have heard people suggest heating the key up incase the lock is 'frozen' or a good amount of WD40 might free the tumbler up or something.

Yeah, get some WD40 in the lock, see if it frees it up :)

For both locks not to be opening, is this normal?

And will the central locking play any part considering there probably isn't an ounce of power in the batter left?

If the battery is completely dead then the central locking won't work, no. Are you sure that the spare key is the correct one for the locks?

I don't know, I never tested it. Tried the boot and didn't work on that either...

The boot isn't lock-able anyway, it just only opens with a key or from inside (if your car has that option). It sounds like your spare key isn't the right one.

Yea, I have the latch in the cabin as well... This isn't such great news :(

There is a way to get into the MX5 cabin without breaking anything, however it can't be posted on a public forum for obvious reasons. Contact Mazda-Mender on MX5Nutz forum, he should be able to help you out :)

Cool, already on MX5nuts with the question. Will try the other one you have suggested. If you know, would you mind emailing me? I will provide photo proof of documentation and car.

Nevermind, got in... Just worked it out on my own and it's very worrying. No damage to the car at all. Took 5 seconds!

Don't worry if the car is 100% dead.
It will just be a flat battery :).
Happened to me a few months ago. The car is very easy to catch the wiper or indicator stalk when you get out, which will flatten it overnight. Also the interior lights are so naff they are easy to leave on too.
I put mine down to experience :).

Neither the wipers or indicators would work if the ignition isn't on?

Bah, can't find the jump leads or my trickle chargers crocodile clips haha. Anyway, found both the receiver unit and the alarm unit so should have all the information and components needed to get it recoded with new fobs. Cost about £100 but it's central locking, alarm and immoby, all of which I would rather have.
