ok so i have a Xonar DG sound card.....but i think its up the spout , when i turn my speakers ( as below) on in the left hand speaker im getting a loud buzzing and whining noise But...only from the green port in the card at the back of the pc.....when i use the speakers through the front panel ....i dont get any noise at all ? .....so is my card gone? or is it the speakers ?

thanx

the drivers that came with the Xonar are whats being used, and no i have no other speakers , another PCI-E slot ? it will only go into one slot on my mobo :(

and thank you for the link

Other speakers or headphones - anything that will let you test whether you get the same sound even when not using your speakers.

well it doesnt happen on headphones , but i dont use them in the back of the pc....only via the front panel ....and even speakers through the front panel sound fine

My bad, forgot the DG is PCI and there's only one slot on the motherboard. Try the headphones on the back and see if you get the same problem.

Try everything you can in the front and back which should highlight the problems at the back.

If you definitely want to prove the card is at fault then you'll have to try it in another PC to make sure the same noise is present elsewhere and isn't particular to your mobo

yeah i see what you mean.....it wasnt always like this though......anyway, i have taken the sound card out re-enabled the onboard sound and ..the sound and speakers appear to work as they should ...in fact as they did when new :)

i did install those drivers ..but seemed to make no difference im afraid , and i have had the card a while ...not sure exactly how long...but a while

Try reseating the card if you haven't already. I have had sound cards throw a wobbly before. A reseat solved the problem. If it's no different, then it's entirely possible it has kicked the bucket, so to speak. My DG failed recently. I must have had it 2 years I guess. One day all I got was squealing through headphones or speakers. Tried it in different PCs with the same result. Completely fubared.
