Modular Power Supplies - Are they worth it?

Why not saves the hassle of having to hide extra wires or in my case having to keep them at bottom of case :p

Worth it for:

Better airflow
Looks tidier
Better choice of what power outlets you want

Not worth it:
If you do not care about any of the above. Modular provides nothing over the functionality of a non-modular PSU in terms of providing power to devices.

For the record. Do not spend more money on a crappy modular PSU JUST to get modular.

Better to spend the money on a non-modular decent PSU than a modular crappy one.

As before, a PSU's primary function is providing clean, stable power to your components. The benefits modular brings are all secondary to this.

It's very useful to have, you have much fewer cables and generally you only have the ones you require making it much easier to plug everything in, much tidier if you need to do any changes, better airflow, lighter etc.

If you can afford a decent one (I say decent as many cheaper power supplies are now modular), then do it, you won't regret it :)

+1

I upgraded from a ModXstreme 600w modular to a Corsair 750w V2 because of my sli 560ti. In my old case, it was a nightmare with all the unused cables. Upgraded case to the P280, Bliss, all cables neatly tucked away behind mobo. Having a case with good cable management is a big Plus, when using a non-modular Psu.
