Far Far Away!
Hi there, I am a novice when it comes to cars.

I am looking at a VW Golf GT TDI 2004 mk5.
It's done 114k miles and has had new tyres, new pump? & new cambelt recently fitted.

The body work is very nice condition.

The price is £3,995.

Can anyone tell me if this price is right and whether 114k miles is a lot for this sort of car and finally wether you'd happily buy it.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply..

My average weekly mileage is roughly 20-30 max. So not a lot. Work is only a 5 minute drive up the road and that's the only place I really ever drive to so heard diesel might not be the best option? I did like the look of the Golf but I'm clueless lol

If you only do 30 or so miles a week and aren't too bothered about how quick or otherwise your car is then by all means buy a golf but look for a small engined petrol variant.

I'd probably stick to the 1.6 as a minimum as the 1.4's (non turbo) are painfully slow

20 to 30 miles per day? per week?....

If your not doing many miles dont bother waisting your time on a diesel.

Hi mate, cheers. I just worked out my monthly mileage which is in total 48. I guess I'd just damage the diesel or not make the full use of it's capabilities? Cheers

Cheers guys, the answers seem to point out the same thing, so i'll look for maybe a petrol variant. Thanks again

I was looking at these before getting something else, a lot of them seemed to have had the dualmass flywheel replaced. Seems to be a fairly common issue with the mk5.

I think for 48 miles a month I'd avoid running a car if possible. I only do about 350 and I thought that was bad

ASH2097 - yeah i've read that on a few forums too.

mame - 350, that's a lot of miles! my family live about an hours drive away and every other month i like to see them, public transport is not so great to get there, so a car does come in handy.

I have been looking at vauxhall corsas 2005 models. Are they any good do people know?
Thanks

At 48 miles per month that's less than 600 miles/year! At that point even I'd consider using public transport, and we do not get on well!

Buying a car in that sort of budget will work out to considerably more than £5/mile in the first year, which is about three times as expensive as your typical taxi around these parts!

For that many miles get the cheapest thing you can considering insurance and tax.

I sure wouldn't like to spend that much money for such little miles.

Sounds like you only drive to work and back, which Im guessing is roughly 1 mile away?

Seriously If thats all you do, walk or get a mountain bike ... Unless your disabled and a have walking difficulties?

If you must have a car, get the cheapest to run possible, certainly not an ageing diesel.

Cheers

2.0 FSI is cheaper, why bother with the turbo?

He clearly doesn't need a 200bhp car does he?

Ah im not clued up on the VW engines so did not really know they did a non turbo 2.0.
