Hi All,

Am currently looking to buy a 330I coupe (07 reg) but have a query with the warranty.

All services have been by BMW up until the last service that was carried out by a normal garage not BMW service approved. (They also did the MOT.)
The terms I have found online state that, in order for the warranty to stay valid, services must be carried out by either a BMW dealer or BMW service approved workshop.

I have just called the warranty department and they have advised that the last service wouldn't affect me from getting a warranty but if something were to go wrong with a part that the garage has dealt with then it wouldn't be covered.
(Although they suggested if I had some form of receipt to confirm that original BMW parts were used then this might help against a claim.)

The trader selling the car has said he would get it MOT'd again but I'm not sure if it's still worth pursuing if it could potentially cause me issues later down the line.

Thoughts???

Can't see you having any problems to be honest but I agree it does seem a shame to have 'spoilt' the service history. Does the rest of the car check out?

Also you realise an 07 plate 330i has the older N52 engine which is circa 20% less economical than the newer engine released in September 2007.

It appears to although I'm not all that knowledgeable on cars! :o I'm hoping to try and convince a friend to step off his diesel pedestal to check it out for me as well.

I do yes, the auto trader advert had it marked as H band but obviously because its March 2007 its a K. (Although the trader seemed to think it was even higher at nearly £500 a year until I and his colleague corrected him )

Unless this is one is particularly cheap if you intend to warranty the car I'd just find a newer N53 powered one. Most people don't notice the difference so they are not exactly thousands of quid more money.

This one is currently up for £10,695 which is the cheapest I have found for the spec in the last six months or so of searching.

(Plus its absolutely gorgeous!!!)

I am still looking though.

That one is cheap becuase its 6 years old and has 100k on it. £11k, in reflection, seems like quite a lot of money to pay for a 6 year old 100,000 mile car. If £10k is your budget then I'd be very tempted to bin the M Sport idea and go for a nice SE - there are numerous newer/lower mileage SE's for this sort of money.

Plus the BMW warranty at this mileage is almost a grand a year for the decent cover and not the 40ish quid a month bargain it is on a sub 60k mile car.

A woman buying a 330i with Nav and Red seats!

Are you single?!

Lol why?

TW Fox - fair enough I was told it was a good price by someone who has owned a fair amount of BMW's.
Regarding SE's I've been told by a couple of people to avoid them because the seats are not comfortable and one of the guys has back issues like I do.

The seats are different, not less or more comfortable. Some people find the sport seats more comfortable, some people find the SE seats more comfortable. Many SE's are specified with Sport seats anyway as a factory option.

If your budget is £10k then personally I do not think it's large enough for a decent E92 330i M Sport. Look at compromising either in specification or engine choice. Or go for a saloon, of which your budget will buy a half decent 330i M Sport.

For example, this 325i has Sport Seats. Ok, sure its a 325i not a 330i and it hasn't got navigation but it's also got the right mileage for the lower priced warranty and it's several thousand pounds cheaper, too:

This one is interesting - lovely colour and the most un-IT savvy advert ever. Combined with its low mileage it could mean a more mature owner:

Buy a model which fits comfortable into your budget allowing a choice of different cars, better than stretching into the bottom of a different market IMHO.

Well budget can be stretched a little. Was £11k but I can go a little higher if the right car does come along.

I've umm'd and ahh'd about it but definitely would want one with sat nav and am happy to consider a smaller engine. I only looked into that one further as its the first that has come up in all the time I've been looking and was told it was a good choice to consider.

Purely looking for automatic though for various reasons.

Auto shouldn't be an issue there are plenty around, broaden your search to 325i's and go have a look at an SE too - in many ways I prefer it to the M Sport tbh, general comfort being a major factor

Have you tried the Sat Nav on these? Its not exactly great.

It will only accept the first four digits of the post code and then you need to input the street. Admittedly it is nice to have it all integrated, but I wouldnt hinge a decision on it. Not sure if the post Sept 07 Nav is any better, but someone else may know.

September 2008 is when it got massively better with the move to the HDD based system. It also got rid of that stupid Assist Window concept whereby you have this huge widescreen and it wont actually let you view a fullscreen map.

However without even the naff previous gen Navigation the interior of the E92 is horribly dull. The screen makes it at least look like it's a step forward from the E46. Without the screen imho the E46 interior is just.. better.

Just checked auto trader to see if the car is still there and it's now priced as £10,495. Think he screwed himself over by not getting a BMW service done. I've seen cars with the same spec and higher mileage go much quicker than this. (Its been up for at least three weeks now.)

No I was looking at other cars and was curious. Comment was merely in reference to him spoiling the full service history which has potentially been the reason why its been up for so long
