Would this be a viable upgrade or just a side-step?

Budget is around £110-120, AMD preferred but NVIDIA is a possibility if the price/performance is right.

Specs:
i5 760 @ 4ghz
OCZ ZX 550w

HD7770 is a little bit faster than a 6850. 7790 is what, 10-15% faster than a HD7770, probably looking at around 15-20% extra performance.

Probably looking at a tad more.
Your overclocked 7770 beat my overclocked 6850 by 20%, we were both running average overclocks of around 20-25% as well.

I'm not too sure how well the 7790s clocks like, gotta be the same as all the other 7*** series though.
Either way it's a half decent upgrade, if the OP could find the extra couple of quid for a 7850 he'll be laughing :D (or get lucky with the clearance lines, what's annoyingly empty atm)

Yeah you're most likely right i was definitely erring on the side of caution with my figures. If the 7790 had come out three months earlier i would definitely have snagged one instead of the 7770.

Is it worth the jump from 6850 though?

You're looking at a big jump in performance from a 6850 yes. Its a shame it only has 1gb of ram as in some games you will run out @1080p. However considering the other cards you were picking had 1gb this is definitely the fastest of the cards mentioned.

I'm only gaming at 720p anyway, looks like I'm getting this card before the deal ends. Thanks for the help everyone.
